Banning X/Twitter on the Forums?

This post epitomizes why there should be no political discussions on here. People really get stuck in their echo chambers and cannot have rational discussions.

Rejecting Nazism in all its forms has nothing to do with being stuck in an echo chamber, and not giving an inch on that front is the epitome of rationality in a just society.

But this is just another thing where someone takes anything they can, exaggerates its, and twists it to fit their political slant. Both sides do it and its a big part of the reason this country is so divided.

I mean, that's part of the reason we aren't banning X links right now. Too tricky to say where the line should be drawn when platforms like Meta have also engaged in some pretty egregiously terrible behavior recently.

I'd say the guiding principle is we obviously aren't in the business of promoting hatred or bigotry of any kind in this community, which is why we don't link to JKR's X posts, specifically, just as we wouldn't link to Musk's holocaust puns or whatever else.

No one is defending Nazism. Saying "that was not a Nazi salute" doesn't mean you are a nazi or defend them.

Only listening to people you agree with and trying to shut down alternate viewpoints is literally what an echo chamber is.

Most politicians are corrupt and accept bribes imo.

I think this is a reasonable response…regardless of how you feel, the product is convenient. Just like, regardless of your views on JKR, we’re excited for the product stemming from HP.

Of course- everyone should reject nazism.

The issue is you’re applying nazism to something that is absolutely, positively not confirmed as an actual salute. Tens of millions of Americans disagree with your assessment. You’re rejecting all of those people’s opinions.

Like I said- look at Tim Walz. Look at Elon’s second “salute”. They are 100% identical. Completely identical. Indisputably identical.

The only difference is who delivered it. And I’m willing to not condemn someone and give someone the benefit of the doubt -with Asperger’s- as someone doing a Hitler salute when he very clearly did something different immediately afterwards (with his hand up as a wave, just like Walz). It doesn’t even make sense to me why he would do one. You think it does. I’m not floored you think differently whatsoever. The fact you’re “floored” that someone thinks differently as you do, I can’t help with.

But, as @fryoj said, this is why politics shouldn’t be on here. Because we don’t think identically.

Brian should not have to be the arbiter of who is right or wrong on a political topic. He has every right to be, because this is his playground.
But again, it’s up to him on who he wants to alienate. And I think it’s unfair and quite honestly rude for people to put pressure on him or attempt to influence him on how to regulate his own forum.

Me? I hope people like @Alicia use X to make money off of and spread her reach and influence. And for Brian to expand this community and make money on it ans well. Even if the money they make comes from evil X users.

Unfortunately, all the major social media sites are filled with lots of garbage and objectionable stuff. It's the nature of the beast. The powers to be, have allowed it to be like the wild west. Thus, we're basically stuck with it and it's basically an individual choice whether to read or ignore .

yeah man, lots of people hate transgender people. they're wrong to do so. you're welcome to hold whatever opinion you like, and i'm generally of the mind that censorship of abhorrent views does more harm than good. but we're allowed to criticize an opinion, an action, whatever, that we find distasteful.

i don't think banning x links solves much, but i'm also of the mind that pretty much all social media is extremely bad for people and going to bluesky or threads doesn't change that. i don't know if musk intended to perform a nazi salute, but it's relatively clear (to me, anyway) that he is performing for a base of people who seem really excited about the salute.

Where’s this energy toward Epic Universe? It has a whole land based on a franchise helmed by someone who’s actively (as of today) defending (and joking about) the very issue you’re upset with.

This thread has devolved into an ugly debate and has gotten so far off track from the OP’s question. To be fair, I knew it would.

We’ve said at this moment that we will not ban those links. Can’t we all just take a breath and agree that we can disagree on certain parts of this topic, and move on without attacking each other’s political beliefs? We all have every right to hold those opinions near and dear to us, but sometimes a theme park forum isn’t the place for that debate.

At some point (and that point has been crossed a long time ago) when someone continues to find themselves defending against such accusations it should be understood and taken that they know exactly what they're doing. It's a boiling frog situation mixed with gaslighting to normalize disgusting behavior until it gets to the point where the person doing the offending behavior drops the 'I was just kidding' part because they feel safe enough to do so. End of story.

Generally people are the sum of the company they keep; there seems to be a concentration of certain kinds of people circling around Musk's (and other's) orbit. Make of that what you will, but it is no accident and very much intentional. My opinion as of now is if you're someone who "can't" see that or chooses not to by now, then I assume you also ignore lessons history has taught and enjoy the taste of sand.

It wasn't always that way! Good moderation teams exist, or existed as they did on Twitter and Facebook before they were removed. Without quality moderation and the teams that run them then unpalatable things tend to spread unchecked.

The beauty of the internet is that eventually new platforms will grow. It's slow and takes time but that is a great part of the Internet! It does take effort and some habit-breaking to do it however it's not impossible.

Yes to tens of millions agreeing with him. Absolutely not in regards to rejecting Clive’s opinion. I’m stating my opinion and have stated it is an opinion and view others as having an opinion; whereas Clive (and others) have stated it as fact and proceed to accept it as fact which invalidates and dismisses any differing opinion.

Can’t we all just take a breath and agree that we can disagree on certain parts of this topic, and move on without attacking each other’s political beliefs? We all have every right to hold those opinions near and dear to us, but sometimes a theme park forum isn’t the place for that debate.
