They will both be these great myths 10 years from now that nobody will really know if they were actually ever true. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

That's great.

The dragon does look impressive. It would be really cool if they had it fly around at night so guests can see it but we know that won't happen. I don't know why they hyped this thing up so much and to only have it show up just once at a media event.

This thing should at least be around for this week for the guests to see... I can understand since it apparently had to buzz epcot to get into that flight path, but seriously, they DID do a public thing with it but yet the only ones who get to see if LIVE were the invited press...

The problem with the Dragons and why they won't be used for anything except a press event is that they are REALLY REALLY loud.

Well I've never met a dragon, but if I did I wouldn't expect it to be a quiet situation

And it would of been much more magical(and smart) if they were to plan on using this once if they were to not officially chronicle it and hype it up via over produced nonsense for such a bit.

And not a single area represented in the New Fantasyland has any relvance to a dragon in its story or setting.

All castles have a dragon. This is the dragon of the new castle

Well that's a stretch, and which one? I don't recall Beauty and The Beast (any version of the story Disney or not) or Little Mermaid(same circumstances) to feature any dragons near their castles.

Also just for clarification this is a towed Ultra Light not a motorized one right?

Nope. Motorized. With a VERY LOUD, what sounds like, chainsaw engine.

This is an HD video of La taniere du Dragon, or Dragon's Lair.
You can actually find the dragon from Sleeping Beauty under her castle.

Yes, I am familiar with Disneyland Paris; but you see the difference....Sleeping Beauty was a story that featured a dragon and a dragon transformation as one of its main characters. The two (one day three) stories represented in the Fantasyland expansion do not feature dragons.

That actually isn't Maleficent. That's a dragon Merlin raised from an egg underneath the castle, at least in the official story.

Also, unrelated to the dragon, does it make it obvious how NOT a big deal this is when Iger doesn't even show up to the damn thing?

The more I think about it the more I am leaning on this was just Disney's PR team using an Ultra Light as a PR stunt. The effect would not be very convincing in any sort of light as it is an Ultra Light with a Dragon frame around most of it.

People were just making obvious Avatar connections because the film featured dragon eagle like creatures.

The effect looked damn good last night, and would as a special nighttime treat in Fantasyland.

But the dragon wasn't built by WDW. It was an R&D project they found a convenient use for.

WHAT?! That's just pathetic.

On a realted note, this morning my mom told me they were talking about "the biggest expansion in WDW history" on Good Morning America and she was confused why I burst out laughing

Honest though it sounds like they were BLASTING the music through the speakers, could you even hear the engine while it was flying over?
