Also, if there is an Elijah Wood animatronic in it, I'll likely get thrown out of the park for doing naughty things to it. :look:

Sure. You really don't want it to be too much where it drives away people who aren't fans of the franchise yet takes up a significant chunk of your park when you could be using a different IP/land/ride in an area to appeal to others.

I'd rather they just save Middle Earth for a "Grand Realms" themed 3rd gate

1. The Portal (hub/Main Street)
2. Mushroom Kingdom w/ Yoshi's Island and DK sub-sections
3. Hyrule
4. Middle-Earth (taking up 30%-35% of the park)
5. Transylvania
6. Atlantis (Willy Wonka could then replace Lost Continent)
7. Mystical Forest (My Little Pony, Smurfs, HTTYD, etc) - the kids area basically, while Nick and Hanna Barbera get KidZone's space

It leaves room for family rides and thrill rides to co-exist and provides a basis for a top-notch 3rd gate

I really want a HORROR LAND! A land that celebrates not just the Classic Universal monsters. But that also includes Horror moves/shows like A Nightmare On Elm Street or Bates Motel. I mean a couple permanent Haunted houses would always be popular. And also its a good excuse to bring back The JAWS ride! If there ever is a 3rd gate THIS and LOTR for sure!

I could see the Sweet Haven/Popeye area of Toon Lagoon being converted into a new Amity Island. Heck, Popeye already has a scene where you see shark fins in the water.

Ahh man I would HATE to be the one to choose whether to bring JAWS back or keep Toon Lagoon/Popeye! I wouldn't be able to choose!

I argued about the difficulty of selecting one item from LOTR that would satisfy everyone. That thought through, I wouldn't be surprised if a LOTR park might have been discussed. An entire park. I can see where it could work. Its popularity worldwide would be great. This way, they could flesh out quite a few attractions/lands. Mines of Moria and the caves of Shelob in Cirith Ungol would both be wild attractions. A pub/restaurant in the Shire where one could order three breakfasts in a row; 1st,2nd, 3rd. Each a mini serving, at least for normal eating people.

Stephen Colbert would become the poster-boy for such a park.

I love the idea of the horror themed park.

I posted this just to throw the post off topic again. :catfight:

Not cool marty. Please do not do it "on purpose" again. I will let the proprietors of this site to give you the "what for".

I think an entire park just for this would be a terrible idea. It just doesn't have the appeal to carry it's own gate.

I think LOTR certainly has the popularity to support itself as a Third Gate, but even if you gave it that much space I don't think it would solve the creative problem of representing multiple locations - it would just create the same problems on a bigger scale IMO. Sure, if each 'land' was a separate location you could build more of each location and make each one bigger (I'd be the first to go running to a full-sized Rivendell, I admit) but it would then jar even more walking between them. Imagine walking the distance of the bridge between MSHI and POE, but on one side having Rivendell and on the other The Shire. It would feel wrong, sight lines would be a nightmare... I just don't think it would work. I would be ecstatic if LOTR ever came to Universal, but I don't think this would be the way to do it.

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea what would be the way to do it. It's just so enormous.

Geographic distance should not be that big of an issue...it would be more of a highlight/best of land I would imagine..You will never get the proper scale of distance between Rivendell and The Shire much like you can never achieve the full size of Hogwarts or the distance between Hogsmede and Hogwarts...I think with the right amount of shrubbery and illusion distance can be achieved creatively..Main Street and Cinderella castle being a great example..I think LOTR is entirely possible and would send IOA over the top as #1 theme park in the world...other locations could be saved for third gate later

Anyone else want to see Dudley become a Mount Doom log flume?

If LOTR ever comes to Universal, it'll be as the anchor of a 3rd gate. I'd rather see Transylvania replace Toon Lagoon along with Wonka replacing LC unless Universal Creative comes up with a AMAZING pitch to save LC

But I definitely think demoing Dudley and building a Mt. Doom or Lonely Mountain flume ride would be epic along with Popeye becoming barrel themed, some sort of stunt show along with a Bag End walkthrough

Any E-ticket themed to LOTR must have a Gandalf AA saying "One does not simply GO into Mordor"

That was Borimor ("One does not simply walk into Mordor"). The Gandalf AA should say "You Shall Not Pass!!!!"
