I still really like the idea of them utilizing a "family free fall" type coaster system for the ride. I can just imagine the mid ride scene: the mine cart dead ends in a cavern full of TNT barrels and, after insuing hijinks from Donkey and Diddy Kong, the barrels 'explode' causing your mine cart to fall to the track below. Foolish blue sky talk I know, and I have absolute faith in what Universal has planned, but the second I heard about the possibility of a Mine Cart Coaster, that exact scene is what first popped into my head.

How did you even come up with that idea? You're on the right track for sure.

Wasn't that an element rumored for when they would've done Mt. Crumpet a long time ago?

Interesting. My guess then is that the ride manufactures for the DK attraction could be either Intamin (The original manufactures for Thir13teen) or, Zierer (The company responsible for Verbolten and Polar X-Plorer)..just a guess, as those two would make sense if the Free-Fall tech is used.

I think inside of falling down it would be more cool to be launched upward (doctor doom/tower of terror), that way i don't have to compare it to verbolten and other freefall coasters to hold my views on and it would be something never done.

Well, the one of the biggest aspects of the mine cart levels in Donkey Kong are the jumps and drops from track to track. Clearly they can't do that with normal coaster system, but then I remembered the newer "free fall" coasters and realized it would be a great way to incorporate that aspect of the game in a way.

No matter what; I think it'd be safe to compare it to Thir13teen, as that was a surprise element not seen in the amusement industry during that time.

Yea I remember the shock factor it had at Alton Towers when it first came out, and then i remember the shock factor it had at BGW when I rode that during softs and no one knew anything about the drop yet and then it happened but now that has been done I think it would have to go to the next level rather than keeping the industry standard.

Was it? I wasn't on the forums back when that was rumored, so all I know about Mt. Crumpet is that there was a rumored Mt. Crumpet attraction lol. Now I'm going to do some digging on her and see what else I can out about it.

I agree that if they are indeed using the free-fall tech for this; it should break ground on the tech already there. Maybe we could see a form of tilting for the free-fall? That's not impossible when you think of it, but we'll see.

Of-course, I can be wrong; but I believe that was indeed the case back in the day.

In a strange sense, I think that DK has the pure potential to be Big Grizzly Mountain on steroids; as of-course, still being for the family audience.

It's been done, but at regional parks (or park singular in the US) that cater to local guests. Ask a good majority of people what a free fall coaster is and they wouldn't have a clue. I think it's sometimes easy to forget that while we as theme park fans know a lot about the industry and new ride types, the average Universal guest has no clue about it. And if Universal went that route, I'm sure we would see something more to it.

You could have tilts, multiple drops. seesawing following by drop, spinning, upward motion, etc, as they lock the cars on the rail which is why you are at a stand still for 10-15 seconds.

Does anyone know how many attractions are planned for this expansion or a relative number?

Supposedly 5 with 2-3 being E tickets.

Also about the pokemon live action rights...if Legendary wins the rights over Sony and WB, that means most likely Universal will be the co-producer and distributor and you know what that means....wait for it....

I rode the Nuthouse coaster for the first time in years Tuesday and when I got off, I said this: Donkey Kong Mine Coaster. The ride was built for two train operation with the extended brake run, so it is a matter of adding the transfer track and voila: you got a cheap and reliable B or C ticket ride to help absorb the heavy Nintendo crowds. If they keep the Donkey Kong license for a larger scale ride, the possibilities are endless to retheme the Nuthouse Coaster.

I figure the second train was not added back then because the old Hard Rock Cafe was in the way. Now that it is gone, Universal could easily modify the ride.

You know, as bad as it could emd up, this Pokemon live action film is generating a decent amount of excitement from fans, woth the cautionary "As long as they do it right" mentality. This could be a real boon for Universal if successful, the merchandising opportunities are insane and varied...

From what it seems from the past (and i'm not surprised if its the same) the only changes that Nuthouse will get, is having a good ol' wrecking ball to end its parade.

Atleast, from what it seems of the past.

As far as my thoughts; if ANY company gets it, I only wish that they don't go and turn it to a piece of crap.

I'm just thinking if Legendary gets Pokemon over Sony and WB, it would mean Universal would have the ability to use Pokemon in the parks as they still have years left on the deal with Legendary even with the Wanda takeover.

But getting movie rights wouldn't necessarily mean park rights. I feel like that would still be up to The Pokemon Company if they want that part of the deal. I could be wrong though.
