Is there any international appeal to Dragon(s)? You can argue that Nintendo, Potter, hell even avatar are global IPs. Not so sure how popular the dragon(s) series is (are) overseas

Reframed the IP’s focus on the IP’s subject rather than the IP itself. Completely changes the conversation.

Oh I don’t think it’ll get a retheme any time soon, but depending on the reception of the sequels it will be interesting to see where it stands

Again, it's in a park with 7 rides and Tron is getting a ride at MK currently. I don't think reception is going to matter.

They did well at the international box office, but weren't in the mega-hit tier.

I know you're talking box office but what a shame that BH6 and TS4 were given the best animated feature award in the respective years 2 and 3 came out (Lego Movie would've sufficed in 2014, and I know everyone raved about Klaus in 2019).

Very, VERY few are. This trend of solo theme park lands needs to stop imo. If Disney wants to build an Indy land, go ahead. If Universal finally gets the rights to Lord of the Rings, go ahead. But other than that, shut it down.

Even an Indy land seems like a real stretch.

The single IP land really does feel like a stretch. Hell, even Monsters isn’t really going to be “one IP”. And the Potter land in the park will represent two different time periods allegedly.

I dunno. Dragons land just seems like a misfire conceptually

Yeah, whatever happened to the days of a collective Marvel (Comics) land and Dr. Seuss land?

We're in the closing grasps of lands themed to a narrow IP/concept, we'll be swinging back to lands based on a broad theme with original/various IPs soon IMHO. There are just not that many properties left outside of LOTR to theme lands to.

Not to mention that IPs drift in popularity over time. We can argue about Marvel/SW’s popularity forever. But, the Hunger Games land in Dubai is going to date itself so quickly. At that point, Motiongate is going to have to retheme an entire land.

One I wish would still open with the rumored Creature of the Black Lagoon ride. That would make it a near perfect park on paper for me.

Fantasy Springs at DisneySea will be an interesting test case of what a "modern" land filled with several IPs and maximum theme-work looks like.

Given that it's DisneySea, I expect it will be spectacular.

Regardless of the staying power of the franchise, a combination Dreamworks-land would be out of place in the midst of the rest of the immersive areas:
You'd have:
1) Highly themed entrance
2) Highly themed Nintendo land
3) Highly themed Universal Classic Monsters land
4) Highly themed Harry Potter land

5) Shrek, HTTYD, Kung Fu Panda, Trolls, Madagascar, Boss Baby?

Basically what Alicia said

It actually sounds like these two could be a combination as well. So it would technically work.

Just leave Boss Baby out. :look:

Let’s keep in mind that universal still has a Barney and Fivel attraction. Just because an IP is old, doesn’t mean they will have to make changes. Especially when it comes to kids related content. I think a Dragon land could hold out ok even after it’s eventual demise as an IP since kids will just be happy to ride something.

Agreed. I think lands like Pandora and HTTYD, and the direction they went with SWGE, are going to lead to problems somewhere down the line.

Not sure what the LOL is for, MotionGate’s stuff is good, and I’d take a direct copy of that over what they’re planning for HTTYD in EU

I agree but it also depends on how good the land itself is regardless of the cache that the IP holds with the theme park going public in the future. Example: I am not big Avatar fan but love Pandora and still will 20 years from now......I am a big Star Wars fan but I do not like Galaxy's Edge.

I think Pandora is a huge snore. GE is flawed, but it’s still better than Pandora

I think they went with HTTYD because its more than just 3 movies - there were a few Netflix shows too that depending on which one, were prequels or concurrent storylines as well. And those reached a lot of people too.

I don't think that familiarity with the IP is necessary when we are talking about Vikings and dragons.

I sort of don't really understand the circular argument. Everyone thinks a park can be successful with original non-IP lands but turn around and say it won't be successful because the IPs aren't well known enough.

This is my thing, the arguments against it to me are very slim as I don’t see how a land full of Dragons and Vikings is a stretch to have a land itself.

Not saying it can’t be successful. I just think in a park with so few lands, pigeonholing your kids section into one theme feels like a mistake, especially when it would be easy to make a great land that features multiple fun family movies
