With the US version of the hit UK show starting this week, I figured there should be a thread for the people on both continents to discuss this beautiful perfection of a reality show.

Never heard of it, what's the story?
Think of a romance oriented version of Big Brother. Ten men and women live in a house, and must "couple up" to remain. Meanwhile, new people show up, which results in new attractions and broken hearts. If you're not in a couple for each "recoupling," (typically one a week) you go home.

There's other twists that involve audience participation - specifically when viewers can vote individual Islanders to go on dates with new people, or vote off individual Islanders that break-up couples.

At the end, viewers vote for a couple to win... The people in that couple then gets an opportunity to decide to split it, or take the money and run.

Bachelor in Paradise and (the failed) Paradise Hotel were inspired by the show, but Love Island has a self-aware absurdity that makes it (at least the UK version) hilarious. The first 4 seasons are on Hulu. Season 5 gets weekly updates.

The US version starts 9 July on CBS, and airs 5 nights a week.
