Universal Stella Nova & Terra Luna Resorts

Universal's Epic Hostel In all seriousness, I think it's one of the ugliest hotels in Orlando after driving past it last weekend multiple times. I know it's not finished, but man it looks like a rainbow can of tuna fish.

Inside Universal - Unofficial Meetup! (April 27th, 2024)

Hi Everyone - Unfortunately, the event doesn't seem to be taking and has gotten next to no RSVPs. I'm going to go ahead and cancel, only because I'm not local to Orlando and it would be a hike to have no shows. Thank you to those who were enthusiastic, hopefully we can do something at...

Inside Universal - Unofficial Meetup! (April 27th, 2024)

Sorry Skold, I don't live in Orlando so going to keep the date for now, but if for some reason we need to postpone, I'll try and shoot for that week.

    Future of Star Tours (DHS)

It used to be a lot worse with the original 2, 3, 3 and 3 combo. Now with the sequels and once the Mando/Andor scenes get mixed in, it'll be very hard to get repeat scenes in back to back ride throughs. I know it's a loaded stat because of the "transmissions" counting as variations, but they...

Gotta say, these are kick-ass shirt designs Brian!

    Future of Star Tours (DHS)

Not gonna lie - the ride tech is dated as hell, but I find Star Tours immensely enjoyable and still far better than Smugglers Run. The new updates to the ride films is great too, I love going and never knowing what I'm going to get.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

You're right - gimmick is a strong word. I only say that because both Spidey and the Transformers physically jump and grab onto the vehicle, which would never work in 2D.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

I know technically any ride that employs 3D was "built" for 3D, but some rides genuinely need it as part of the gimmick (Jimmy Fallon, Spider-Man, Transformers), for depth based on rendering (Kong, Avatar, Gringotts) or because the vehicles have limited movement and need immersion (Ratatouille)...

Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

It sounds like this ride, along with other rides down the line (Ratatouille for example) are "testing" this, but in reality, it's a change that's coming short of any extremely damaging reactions from guests. And by damaging, I don't mean survey scores, but many people actively upset and going to...

Inside Universal - Unofficial Meetup! (April 27th, 2024)

Hello Everyone! Very excited to announce the unofficial Inside Universal Meetup! This is a come one, come all informal event for us to casually meet & greet and enjoy some time at the parks. The plan is to meet at 11am in front of Universal Studios on Saturday, 4/27 and spend the day hopping...

Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

As someone who is currently a Disney and Universal passholder…I can say that in comparison, there’s a lot less to complain about at Universal and way more to be grateful for…:lmao:

It felt brighter - and dare I say…clearer? That was the one nice thing about it being 2D is that you can see finer detail in the backgrounds. That said, not worth the trade off at all.

It was running very quickly today. Line started in the witch room and made it on in like 20 minutes.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

If one of the few rides the whole family could enjoy together goes potentially from a 6 to a 4 out of 10, you don’t think that hurts brand perception in a meaningful way? It basically changes the ride from a “mild recommendation” to a “skip it”.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

Can confirm everything @Brian G. said was true, though I’d also argue the forest scene is lacking too. The motion helps, but the T-Rexs hitting and chomping at the car and the spider at the end just don’t work in 2D. It’s a much lesser attraction now. I would also say, the crowd in my vehicles...

Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

With enough beer, maybe it’ll be in 3D for me? More to come on this hypothesis…

Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

I do think there’s something to be said about taking away from attractions built to be more applicable to most park goers though. Seuss Trolley is for very young ones and Dr Doom is strictly for thrill seekers. When you water down rides that have general mass appeal, it hurts the brand of the...

I’m just looking forward to when they take glasses away from Jimmy Fallon and the scene where he launches stuff, they change his VO to “I wonder what else would look cool in 2D? Ah t-shirt cannon”
