    Discovery and WarnerMedia Merger

Sorry, sounded clever at 3am. Where under AT&T they burned a lot of bridges with talent over the pandemic theatrical release schedule, they’re doing it again now, arguably on a much larger scale, with this mass cancellation of content. I don’t think even “fully embracing theatrical” is going...

    Fantastic Beasts: Secrets Of Dumbledore

My wife still hasn’t learned that she isn‘t supposed to like the second movie, and I like it well enough even though I know I‘m not supposed to.

    Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

An HHN house that lasts 3 days might cost $6K. Besides, should I ever decide to do this, I certainly wouldn’t want to worry about 299 people I don’t know filming me while I’m making an ass out of myself in a space pirate costume.

    Disney+

Be a fan. My impression is that there is no cropping involved. The aspect ratio will switch when the extra image is only in certain sequences, and there may be some open-matte type situations where technically it’s not the “original” aspect ratio but it’s not losing anything. Also that the...

A bunch of jokes went through my head, but nobody was around to tell me which one was good enough to post.

I recently rewatched the documentary Gung Ho and find it still relevant today. I also read on Facebook the Japanese still own all the golf courses.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind - General Discussion

That’s not a middle entrance in the artwork, it’s an archway in front of the building with, presumably, fast pass/standby/single rider signage.

Netflix actually has some rather stringent requirements for production and post. I’m sure Amazon and Apple do as well. There’s no functional reason for their originals to look cheap.

So... the shared experience of theater-going is best done when it’s cheapest, nobody is there, and you avoid paying for the concessions that keep it open. :)

    Theatrical Future/PVOD Thread

There isn’t any show or movie that you like that everyone else thinks is garbage? More content is good for everyone, from the creators who get a shot at a real production, to the people employed by its creation, to the people who may end up enjoying it. The internet will make sure some of it...

Effects of Coronavirus (COVID-19) On Entertainment & Tourism Industry

The point was that Super35 in and of itself doesn’t imply the presentation aspect ratio, it just means your camera aperture covers the entire frame (it also has a different optical center than Academy). But I’m being picky I suppose. Anyway everything is scanned now, so nobody cares about the...

Effects of Coronavirus (COVID-19) On Entertainment & Tourism Industry

If I may... vista vision had a long life shooting VFX for optical compositing. It’s 8 perfs sideways. 35mm film is either Academy or Super35. Both are 1.33:1 (4-perf), but super uses the full area of the negative vs Academy which reserves the side for a printed optical soundtrack. 1.85 is...
