That’s the thing with outliers, though…they statistically don’t belong in comparisons like this. The only thing Disney could’ve done to counter Epic is a park of their own, but that would effectively put them at nearly double the gates UO would have. It’s a tough comp to make.
That’s a popular...
The last addition to Disney was the Epcot hub this year…the exact kind of smaller investment everyone agrees is necessary in rounding out the park. But let’s just say it was Tron in 2023; in the year between then and now, all everyone has said is “Disney doesn’t invest enough!” Now here we are...
Im fairly confident the Herfindahl-Hirshmann Index would be too high combining the two. Warner and Universal are two of the strongest studios among the Big 6…but let’s say by the time you factor in Netflix, Amazon, A24, and the rest of the smaller studios, I still don’t see a world where merging...
Someone a little older than me may be able to chime in, but I would bet the discourse here is very similar to what happened as computer animation started overtaking hand-drawn animation. Artists are still required to properly leverage AI, it’s just a difference in the medium.
If you‘ve actually...
Not arguing that…but still, think of the insane level of fandom/commitment to be able to remember THAT detail to even use as bait in the first place. It ultimately means nothing but I think it speaks to the design team’s reverence for the OG.
I mean…I get why people are skeptical about the changeover but the fact that at least one person working on this has such a passion for Splash Mountain that they remembered details about construction signage this many years later makes me less inclined to think this will be an automatic downgrade.
I get what you guys are saying but it’s not like the feedback goes directly to the mechanics or decision-makers…it’s not going to hurt anyone’s feelings if you complain about stuff that’s impacting your experience (regardless of whether or not it’s controlled).
VoC work relies on all the data...
There’s a fine line with AI. I see completely AI-generated work as being terrible (and it’s not currently at a point where that would be any good anyway).
If you’re making a movie and you’re tight on budget/time, though, I can see AI being a useful way to fill in the details. It sounds like AI...
The difference between Apes and Avatar is that in Avatar, the human intervention is the catalyst in the story to promote a naturalist message (like @Jake S said), which involves character/story arcs that emphasize nature and all that.
In Planet of the Apes, the human intervention is the...
Eh…Planet of the Apes isn’t about celebrating animals, it’s about faults in humanity. Could fit aesthetically but that would be a really steep departure from the rest of the park’s underlying theme.
Not sure the exact dates you’re looking at but the website says Universal’s Power Passes just started getting blocked out. Wonder if that one-week surge was just a lucky few locals who’s Spring Breaks lined up with valid pass windows, which are now shut down.
The easy answer is inflation I think. When it costs $800/month for groceries then paying out the wazoo to go ride rides and eat chain restaurant food for a week probably seems less appealing to the average family.
I’m biased because of my proximity to the parks, but I’ve always viewed them as a...
Oof…yeah, good point. That one huge room with the bridge in the center IS what puts Indiana Jones ahead of the pack. Hopefully the infrastructure allows for them to recreate that…
I’m absolutely a Dinosaur fan, so I’m actually going to be pretty bummed if/when it goes.
That said, I do like Indiana Jones a lot and consider it a basically perfect attraction, so that won’t be a terrible consolation prize. Only thing is, the Indiana Jones Adventure is an overall experience...
I guess I should’ve specified that it’s not a problem specific to any theme parks with IP licensing agreements. The movie landscape is not as accommodating to the movies that gave us the best rides in the past, so the lack of new Jaws/BttF/Kong speaks more to that than to a shift in any park’s...
That’s not really a Universal problem, though. No studios are putting out monster hits like the ones you mentioned. That’s more of a market issue than a theme park one.
Off the top of my head, the only recent smash hit movie that could benefit from a brand new thrill ride would be Top Gun…and...
