Universal Orlando Resort Expansion (Part 1)

We may also see Uni tip their hand on expanded shuttle service from MCO, and perhaps an Uber-like service (like Disney’s “Minnie Van”) between the original resort, Endless Summer, and the new property. Uni probably doesn’t want to add too many cars to I-Drive and the surrounding area if it can...

Universal Orlando Resort Expansion (Part 1)

It’s just hotels. Anything like a second CityWalk will be built at the much larger site down Universal Boulevard that contains the new park(s) under development. In all honesty, International Drive is effectively its own CityWalk. The challenge for Universal is to see how much of it they can...

    Volcano Bay: General Discussion

Per CNN it is five acres, compared to 28 acres for the original park. You should be able to squeeze in four attractions the size of Taniwha Tubes, although I think three would be more likely. Part of it will depend on things like adding in additional lockers, restrooms, food service, etc. It...

It looks like Dockside will be going vertical soon:

All we know for Dockside is that it will be sometime in 2020.

Universal Endless Summer Resort - Surfside and Dockside Inn & Suites

It would not surprise me to see at least the exterior of Dockside completed by August 1, 2019 - the remaining few months can be spent on the interior and any amenities. That would cut down greatly on any construction noise at Surfside.

Universal Orlando Resort Expansion (Part 1)

I think 2021 is achievable, but Universal has to start turning dirt by September to have a shot at opening in April/May. I also think a hotel has to be on the board for 2021 as well. Universal has a fairly nice rhythm established for opening hotels in August, so that may play a part in the...

Universal Orlando Resort Expansion (Part 1)

I’ve read that International Drive at Sand Lake is the busiest intersection south of New York City. I would think Orange County at least has to listen to any proposal that takes cars off either street.

Universal Orlando Resort Expansion (Part 1)

Those apartments will probably be replaced with a hotel in 3-4 years anyway. Even if Universal doesn’t wind up with it, that land will be worth far more as commercial property once the New park starts going vertical.

Universal Endless Summer Resort - Surfside and Dockside Inn & Suites

So is Universal changing the shoreline of the lake, or is that just darker colored fill dirt?

Universal Endless Summer Resort - Surfside and Dockside Inn & Suites

I know a Disney executive has said that starting their cruise line was comparable to starting another park in terms of financial investment. Once you get past that first $2 Billion, it is pretty easy money, although the sector is getting pretty crowded. If I were advising NBCU, I’d actually...

So what’s with the “Cruise Ship Services” category on the trademark filing? Is Universal going to be building a ship too?

Universal Orlando Resort Expansion (Part 1)

Like that isn’t an issue now? That said, it may make sense to try to get the heavier work (clearing land, utilities) out of the way first, even if both parks don’t open at the same time. There can also be more space between the parks than there is at the current resort.

Universal Orlando Resort Expansion (Part 1)

If construction starts in early 2020, a waterpark opening in 2022 seems feasible. Keep in mind Volcano Bay does have some room for expansion, although it is quite limited. I personally think the next dry park will open first in 2023 - it will drive hotel volume more consistently throughout the...

Universal Orlando Resort Expansion (Part 1)

Depending on the current traffic levels on SR 528, putting in direct rail may make more sense than trying to expand the road. One would have to expect that if Universal adds 1-3 new parks, there will be incremental growth in the number of visitors to the Orlando area, in addition to the massive...
