In an unprecedented collaboration, Universal Orlando Resort and the Orange County Regional History Center in Orlando, Fla., present
A Year in the Life: Backstage to Onstage at Universal Orlando Resort, an exhibition that gives visitors an exclusive look at the extensive process that goes into bringing the theme park's iconic annual events to life. Opening January 26, 2013, and running through January 5, 2014, the exhibition will change with each Universal Orlando event season: Mardi Gras, Halloween Horror Nights, and the holidays - focusing on The Macy's Holiday Parade and performances by Holiday Music Sensation Mannheim Steamroller. It also showcases the creative process that brought to life two of Universal Orlando's newest entertainment experiences - the Universal Cinematic Spectacular - 100 Years of Movie Memories lagoon show and the Universal Superstar Parade.

Universal Orlando is the only Orlando destination where guests are not just entertained - they become part of the entertainment, soaring above Hogwarts with Harry Potter, swinging above the streets with Spider-Man, transformed into a banana-loving minion in the hilarious and heartwarming Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride, and helping Shrek save Princess Fiona in Shrek 4-D. And this unique collaboration between the museum and Universal Orlando is the first time the public will be able to learn about each step in the story development process that brings the theme parks entertainment experiences and annual events to life.

It runs from Jan. 26th, 2013-Jan 26th, 2014.

A far cry from most American's historical societies. Most of the world for that matter... very unique.

I might go in October, and it looks really cool. What intrigues me the most is the where do you fit wall in the exhibit since it's my dream to live and work at Universal.

4th Annual Entertainment Designers Forum

Alan Gilmore (X-Men first Class, The Bourne Ultimatum, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, World War Z) just announced to fill the TBD position!

Filmmakers and Art Department members, take note. One of the coolest entertainment forums rolls back into The Orange County Regional History Center on March 8th. Industry professionals from Universal Studios, Sea World, Busch Gardens, Walt Disney World Imagineering, Falcon’s Treehouse and Ripley Entertainment will gather for two open sessions (6:30pm and 9:00pm) to share behind the scenes info and stories. The open format allows the audience to ask the panelists questions and gain further insight on the panelists’ collective careers in film, television, theater and theme park industry, past and present. (I’m positive at least one person will ask inevitable questions about the future of Halloween Horror Nights, Howl-o-Scream or Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm.) Reserve your spot for this event by calling The History Center at 407-836-7010.

The innaugural Entertainent Designers Forum in 2010 featured an energetic panelist named Stephanie Girard, a local Art Director and Set Designer, who at the time was battling Colon cancer. The main purpose of the forum was to raise money for a cause close to her heart, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Celebration, FL. Industry colleagues, caregivers from all over, people she had never even met, her husband Scott, stepson Scott and Best Labradoodle, Jack, all rallied to help cross this item off her bucket list. All told, not only did she meet her goal of $25,000, she totally KICKED THE PANTS of it, raising over $33,000 for the American Cancer Society!

On a very personal note: Steph was a talented, AMAZING woman who brought a smile to everyone’s face and gave back to the community (with Jack!) in spades. In November 2009, she spoke at our Relay For Life in Hunter’s Creek with honesty and great optimism. Sadly Stephanie passed away on December 30th, 2010. However, three years after her death, this event still lives on in her memory. Every single person on this panel, including moderator Kim Gromoll, are as top notch a person as they are an entertainment professional – and we could all learn a great deal from each. Whether you’ve been directly or indirectly touched by cancer, if you can, please support this event and the projects of all involved. This disease does not discriminate.

They do that every year for Relay For Life. I've heard it's awesome to go. Might make it worth my time this year.
