I remember one of those wayback rumors that Australia was penciled in for AK at one point.
Many of the animals of Discovery Island (around the Tree of Life) are Australian, so they'd definitely have the residents ready to move in.
That plot can actually hold two pavilions.
One of them - the closest to the marina for Reflections of Earth - would need to be built like a bomb shelter due to the explosives that lay behind that plot of land just in case something went wrong. This is why that land is the least likely to be built on going forward until absolutely necessary.
Hey Nick C. Is this rumor still hot? Do we have some other sponsors on the playfield?
An Australia section at AK would be awesome. Think a forced perspective version of Uluru/Ayers Rock that housed a great indoor ride.
For South America, I'd rip off a water feature modeled after Iguazu Falls and have an aviary of tropical birds also an area that's modeled from Inca ruins.
Sadly, that would never happen with today's Disney as there's got to be an IP angle to exploit.
It wasn't a 100% done deal, but contracts had been drawn up and they were working out the kinks last I heard.
I wonder if the attraction actually might be sit down entertainment.
It wouldn't hurt... Once we had insiders pointing out that the possibility of having an attraction was little, that would be good news. One the other hand the question remains, is this pavillion surviving the capex phase and the Brazilian crisis?
If this happens, the “Brazilian Crisis” won’t affect it as it won’t be sponsored by the government directly. It would be a private company.
Yay, one less thing to worry about
Disney is rumored to be spending $450 million on a new Epcot pavilion | Blogs
The $450M rumor is true, but just so no one gets confused, the sponsor is rumored to be paying $250M and Disney putting up $200M.
I will literally crap myself if Disney actually opens a non-IP related ride in this pavilion.
If new pavilion is Brazil, I don't think they would need an IP. Brazil in itself is an IP and could sell a lot of merch not yet found at Epcot/Disney.
I'd still crap myself.
For that amount of money, there had better be a ride.
You have discovered the entire secret to the FOX purchase. They wanted...
While Rio would fit better than anything else in Disney's catalog, i'm going to say don't count on it. Hell, I still haven't heard 100% that there will be an attraction.
STOP BUILDING THINGS IN EPCOT WITHOUT RIDES
EDIT: Also, to be frank, that is a ****load of money. IDK how there can't be a ride in there
Written by the same guy who said Pac Man was coming to UOR Nintendo land.
Pac Man coming to UOR was never an actual rumor, however. Most of what he has in that article, while not all true, is pulled from credible WDWM insiders.
