Just a few takeaways from Comcasts Year End meeting today.

ThemePark Revenue was up 29.9% in 4th Q, and 17.3% for the year

Cap Spending at NBCUniversal was up 5.3%, "primarily in the Theme Parks"

The theme parks " continue to significantly exceed expectations"

Free Cash Flow increased 18% to 1.7 Billion.

Diagon Alley is a failure. It didn't meet expectations. No one's going. Goals are not being met. Diagon stores are empty of customers. Universal parks are empty....NOT!!!...The naysayers & haters are looking pretty bad right now. A 29.9% increase can't be argued against....Congratulations Universal. You were rewarded the risks of rapid expansion.

I don't really take to celebrating financial numbers, because I'm certainly not going to get any of that money.

But at the very least it shows the asinine comments of Diagon being a flop are as fraudulent as they so often appeared. It also continues to show NBCU that if you invest, they will come.

If I am correct, it usually means how much a person spends in a themepark.

And since those percentages include Universal Hollywood, I would confidently say that the revenue percentage increase for Universal Orlando was even greater than the 29.9% total revenue increase for all parks, since the Hollywood expansions haven't opened yet.

Yes, that is correct. ( I do this for a living so I forget not everyone speaks this way) But on another note, it was asked if Universal Bejing will be impacting Cap Spending in the near future, the reply was that it is in the very early stages and it won't impact Cap. Spending until around 2020.

So, in the big picture, does this mean that spending is far less than the income being created?

That is some pretty good news for Universal. I'd love to see a complete breakdown of park to park performance.

In a roundabout way-Yes. You invest in more capital (parks, rides, etc. to get a return on your investment. The excess of income after all expenses (including capital expenses) are measured against income-that is free cash flow. That money can be used for dividends or reinvested for even more income. In this case, it seems that Comcast realizes that the parks can generate more potential profit with them increasing capital investment in the parks--good for us all who go there. When they first bought the parks, it was felt that they did not have this opinion. HP phase one was the eyeopener for them. Forgive my simplistic answer-long version bores even me.

There were some doom and gloom people here as well..Regardless, I'm glad Universal/Comcast is experiencing such financial growth. They deserve it for all they have put into the parks and the hard work...
