Around 5PM on Tuesday May 28th, and explosion in or next to a bin in Disneyland's Toontown sparked an evacuation of Toontown. Fire Team swept Toontown and later gave the park the all clear to let guest re-enter the area. Lucky no one has been injured. Who would do such a thing in the first place.

If you don't make the jump to the news articles it appears someone put dry ice in a plastic bottle and threw it in a trash can. Interestingly about half of the articles out there don't mention it, but I suppose it's a much more sensational news story if it's an explosion and not some jerk who thought this would be funny.

Also worth pointing out that Disney does use dry ice for such things as keeping ice cream cold while vending it. And there is an ice cream vendor near by.

Some have also speculated that dry ice is going to be added to the list of banned items (because for some reason it was not up until this point)

This has also been happening around the general Anaheim area lately as well, so likely the same idiots that have been putting them in trashcans and other places around the area just got brave enough to do it in DL as well.

Wow... That sucks, and they really allowed dry ice in the parks before?
Seriously, we were taught in chemistry class that you can hurt people with that stuff, and how it's illegal put dry ice in plastic bottles. I can't imagine why Disney allowed people to bring it that stuff before.
Sucks that people are being stupid though, I hope they catch whoever did it...

It's great for keeping your food in your cooler cold. And that is the context they would have allowed it in before.

Also, the entire park was not evacuated. Only Toontown
Wow. That thread title made it sound like a terrorist attack.
Yea, that is why I wanted to put that summery of what really happed up there. The media seems to want to make it more then it is.
