I used to watch The Tonight Show when Leno was at the helm. His headlines on mondays were hilarious, I also watched Conan from time to time but it was after Leno went off the air. Who did you watch and who were your favorites?

Carson was by far the best. His style and the producers ability to secure the biggest and hottest new talent made for excellent TV.

Oh, and @Dead2009 you forgot Jack Par and Steve Allen, who was the OG Tonight Show host.

and....you have to be pretty old to know, but....Jack Parr was my favorite host. He was probably the best 'conversationalist' host ever on network TV. Even as a young kid i couldn't turn him off because his conversations with guests were so deep and interesting (even better than Dick Cavett who in later years would copy his style on late night ABC)....and, Steve Allen was actually my second favorite host. One of the most talented entertainers ever. He could do just about everything well. He was the first Tonight Show host. And he had a great nightly supporting cast. A very young Don Knotts, Tom Preston & Louis Nye, and his wife Jayne Meadows (sister of the Honeymooner's Audrey Meadows). Allen lived in the Pittsburgh area during his early years...and when things got wild on the show, he would start yelling " Smock, Smock!", which is a small coal patch town a few miles down the road from where I live.

I was literally about to post.
