Those effects have always been spotty and inconsistent operation for me. As in, the entire life of the ride.

I miss the original fake fire effect from the ending. It hid the train turning. Now it just seems to end.

I'm still baffled why they don't just go ahead and bring it back.
The dome screen is still there and I've heard the fog machinery is still there for the faux fire, just disabled.
If the issue was projector quality, or an issue with mechanical harddrives (so I've heard), we've definitely got enough advancements to bring it back.
Although they did remove some of the set to fit the new projection better (remembering the days when the current video was literally a TV mounted on the wall and then a smaller projector LOL) so at this point, I think they won't want to spend the money.

Missed opportunity that they didn't bring it back last year for the 20th anniversary.

Projecting (pun intended) but Revenge of The Mummy has been kind of an oddball--on the matter of it being on the chopping block for nearly a decade.

Even back in 2015, Jon Fu had reported of potential rumors that Mummy was going to be on it's way out then. And had things of happened in the case of Hogsmeade being a success--then odds are the ride would be gone by now in favor of the original position of Super Nintendo World.

I think at the end of the day, NBCUniversal/USH likely doesn't see the sense in restoring or modernizing elements that were cut during the GE time, because unlike Orlando's to where that has been given retrack; Hollywood has been only given lighter refurbishments and updates. The logic doesn't really make sense in the long haul; especially once USH finally gets it's proper "Coaster" with Hollywood Drift.

I know it was 1997 and the company was very different, but they should’ve just kept it ET. I love Mummy and it’s one of the most popular rides in the park, but I still think it was a mistake

It’s probably because now the projector used for that effect doesn’t exist anymore, for the most part I heard the effect was just too expensive to maintain.

I think they'd have to completely re-engineer the effect. If the ride needs major downtime (it should be hitting the end of its expected service life sooner rather than later), maybe they can try for a new ending then so they can market the return of the attraction with "new thrills" or something.

I'm never eager to see a pretty good and fun ride be closed just because of age....The replacement often is not as good.......

Perhaps it's me--but if Universal Hollywood was to have a Universal Monsters attraction; I'd stand to think that the age and lesser nature of our Mummy wouldn't be to the standard of what UC Hollywood would probably want it to be.

Have to imagine the investment in bringing back a effect that has been MIA for nearly 20 years now and a partial retracking isn't worth it--for when you could just have a brand new attraction in tow.

I remembered that USH talked about bringing the Spider-Man ride into the park as a ET replacement, but opted instead for the Mummy Ride. If only Vivendi (Universal's parent company at the time) had spent a little more money at the time, we could have had the Spider-Man ride instead of the Mummy.
