Robert Eggers Reteams with Focus Features for 13th Century Werewolf Thriller ‘Werwulf’ (Exclusive)

Eggers is coming off of 'Nosferatu' for the studio.

Written by Sjon, who also wrote The Northman. To be released by Focus Features.

Eggers wrote Werwulf with Sjón, who co-wrote heady Viking saga The Northman with the filmmaker. While details are scarce, sources say the story is set in 13th century England. The script also features dialogue that was true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English

Someone summed this up very well for me, the further you read of the announcement the more excited you are for the film.

I'm totally down for a medieval werewolf film, all I ask is we get a really good design for the werwulf and I'll be a very happy camper here.

Putting the cart way before the horse but I wonder about the possibility of a Robert Eggers compilation house at HHN with both Nosferatu and Werewulf. It'd be a fun break from Universal Monsters. There were also enough cutesy tie-ins with Nosferatu - experiential events, popcorn buckets - that I don't think Eggers would be that precious about an HHN house.

I have wanted a period werewolf movie (staring Cillian Murphy) for ages.

If only I didn’t find Robert Eggers’ work overly pretentious and meandering…

period werewolf movie,
I guess there's the brotherhood of the wolf and the company of wolves, kind of.

I’ve always envisioned something akin to the OG German myth, which has a bit of crossroads myth/Faustian bargain elements to it.

This is going to be my dream movie made by the very last person I’d want to make it.

EDIT - Adding a reference Peter Stumpp - Wikipedia

I want Eggers to just do folklore and period horror for his entire career. Forget this stupid Labyrinth sequel. Give me a Cthulu film or something.

I will likely never watch another Robert Eggers movie - stunningly beautiful cinematography but he replaces solid writing with bizarre acting, an ear drum busting score, and surface level characters. Sorry, not sorry, I prefer well developed characters and my hearing.

IMO, everything he's done is glossy, unbearable, overrated, loud nonsense. I spent more time thinking about how often I floss then paying attention to Nosferatu.

And The Witch? The Lighthouse? The Northman?

Robert Eggers = The Suck.

I've got a headache now just thinking about his work.
