I'm not sure how old this quote is but I found it interesting. Figured it deserved a thread. Sounds a lot like WestCOT.

It's from his book that was released in September, but it's worth noting that he hasn't worked for Disney since 2022. It's not really clear when this concept was pitched, possibly around or even before SDR opened, but it's very likely that Disney's future plans for Shanghai have changed within that time, and there's no telling if they're even thinking about a second park at the moment.

Was absolutely planned before Covid to open in the 2026-28 timeframe, no idea if it’s still on the table but highly suspect it’s part of the $60 billion figure thrown out to make Wall Street happy.

I think it's pretty evident a 2nd park isn't happening in the next few years? Seems like they're insistent on adding more attractions to the current park versus a new park.

A modern version of Epcot with a China-backed budget would be insane though.

I’ve always thought this Disneyland felt the most modern and “even” in terms of attractions. I’d in theory if I had endless money would love to visit someday. I can’t imagine what they would do with a 2nd park!

Here's that diagram overlayed on a Google Earth view for reference.

The rerouting of the perimeter road outward to "give wide berth" the the area within definitely suggests making way for a second park to me.

I'd be surprised if a second park was imminent given the political climate and Bob Iger's recent statements on their effect. However, there might be a contractual obligation I'm unaware of.

Even if they were to start construction tomorrow, that would still likely be a 2030/31 opening date.

My impression is that there is, the timing of it just got drawn out after/because of Covid.
