You can fit a Tormenta sized coaster in just Vipers spot... I see no reason they will make a traditional giga when you can make a cheaper dive version. I expect us to get a 330 foot tall dive one day, thats my guess.

Oh my gosh that is literally the worst case scenario I HATE this.

There's really no credible way you can argue that multiple people had pre-existing "traumatic brain injuries" that they didn't know about before going on X2.

The pre-existing issues that could plausibly go unnoticed and then manifest in something serious from any theme park ride are heart issues, not brain injuries.

Not always true. There was a woman several years ago who came back to the station on Goliath unconscious due to a pre existing brain aneurysm, and later died.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

As for X2, it doesn't matter anymore. Media coverage and perception have killed any chance of this ride reopening.

I'm not qualified to make that determination and neither are you. Oh, unless you're working on the OSHA investigation, which if that's the case, by all means.

Especially since there are warnings about who should ride posted at the entance of rides. If someone has a neck/back injury, they shouldn't be riding any coasters with the possible exception of Seven Dwarves Mine Train. Big Thunder Mtn can put a serious wrench into someone's back if that back has issues. Some rides have been built poorly (ex. Son of Beast) that led to injuries but most rides are safe for the majority of people. This isn't a case of a company knowingly building and running a dangerous ride.

Nice job moving the goalposts! Stardust Racers had a single, well-investigated incident that immediately resulted in a shutdown and reopened only after a lot of inspections and public explanations. That transparency counts for a lot and provides confidence that it was unique, if tragic circumstance.

X2 has had multiple incidents result in similar serious injuries, which already blows your comparison to Stardust Racers. There's also been no transparency or explanation from the park either.

I understand why not but wish they could have people sign something and get one last ride in

Also just sucks to lose a ride with a 90-3 hour 3 wait....now other rides just stack up more lines because we are still not loading coasters fast enough and no new ride since Wonder woman

I think the GP is going to make a bigger stink about X2 closing than the new ride. It’s the best decision they can do if they’re going down that path but I don’t think it’s going to work.

On a positive note, I had one of the best Magic Mountain experiences ... ever? Certainly the best experience I can think of. @Clive and I walked into the park at 10:33 a.m. and by 4 p.m. had been on every operating coaster (save for whatever the Looney Tunes coaster is called these days). Every coaster had two trains running, ops were friendly and competent — they even had groupers at many attractions!

Of course, X2 was closed as was the entire "Screampunk" area (including Colossus and Scream). Six Flags is still going to Six Flags. But overall it was a really, really pleasant day. Lots of stuff had received paint recently and the food we ate at the Full Throttle restaurant was perfectly fine. Overpriced? Of course. Expensive beer even by theme park standards? Naturally.

But I didn't leave thinking, "this is why I only come to Six Flags once a year." And that's a huge positive.

Exactly. I don't understand the comparisons.. it's like apples and oranges. Stardust had one person with a pre-existing condition where warnings existed unfortunately pass. It was incredibly, incredibly tragic no doubt but you can't compare that instance, which was thoroughly investigated and determined to not be fault of attraction causing the death, vs. another ride which has had multiple people - not with pre-existing conditions - pass away or suffer brain damage as a direct result of how the ride operates...

I think that the hard part for the park is that they try to fix it (I think that video did a great job explaining it) and they hope that it stays fixed. Then, they have another injury or two and they look at it and find the ride is performing as expected. With the Son of Beast, the ride was not designed properly and probably not built well. They fired the designer (RCCA) because of the problems building it. In its second year, two riders broke their necks on the ride but they had a preexisting issue. A year later, another rider without preexisting conditions fractured a vertebrae on it. The park investigated but everything seemed fine. In 2006, the ride derailed and 27 riders were sent to the hospital. The park removed the loop and put lighter trains on the ride to try and mitigate a bad design. Then, two years later, a lady suffered a burst blood vessel in her brain from the ride. Having been on the ride multiple times, I can say that it was not an enjoyable coaster. Boring layout and it really ratcheted your brain and body. Finally, the park made the decision to close the ride.

So, in looking at X2, I can understand why Six Flags kept it going and understand why they also might be closing it. These rides are pretty expensive and parks want to save them if they can. However, the park reputation and concern about if more people get hurt, which would suggest knowing a problem with a ride and ignoring it, starts to outweigh the benefit of keeping the ride running.
