Skull Island: Reign of Kong - General Discussion

And? 4 years is nothing in theme park attraction lifetimes. Universal tears down more often than Disney but even there the attractions last longer than 4 years.

With no scare actors, they could make those hiding places sections for screens. One could show other areas surrounding the "temple". Another one could show a "static" scene that would occasionally have something jump at you.

I feel that this ride could be improved by adding a few scenes. I understand they were working with limited space, but the story feels very rushed and incomplete. First, they should have a scene in the queue that introduces you to Kate, maybe better explaining what your purpose is on the island. It would also help to flush out her character a little better. Second, there should be one additional scene after you enter the temple, maybe an animatronic crab claw could surprise guests by popping out of a crevasse in the ground, snapping, before retreating into the hole. This would help set the mood a bit, instead of abruptly placing you in the action. This would then lead to the Kate “bat attack” scene, leading to the bug pit and Kate being grabbed by the claw we saw earlier. Next, the transition between bug pit to jungle is way too abrupt. The transition needs to be flushed out at least a little better. The Kong vs Rex fight scene would be fine the way it is, however as you enter the giant animatronic Kong head scene there needs to be some sort of resolution to the Kate subplot. Maybe show her standing outside the mouth of a cave, the broken crab claw laying beneath/around her. We see that Kong not only saved us, but Kate as well. The broken claw could be a prop, Kate could be a peppers ghost illusion or whatever. I’m not saying these changes would make this ride a must experience, but I think they would definitely improve it.

Is there any backstory to Kate in the queue that I've missed or are we supposed to know who she is when we hit the first scene?

this ride crashed on the 360 scene on my trip. We basically sat in the room for 2 mins before the ride moved us to the final Kong scene. This was fairly disappointing considering it was the longest we waited for Express...almost 30 mins.

When those types of stoppages have occurred on Universal attractions that we were on, we've always asked for rerides, and they escort us to an area where we can get on the next departure. They're pretty good at compensating for that.

I’m sure this has been mentioned before, but will they ever fix the blank screen between the 360 area and the animatronic finale? It’s looks so weird just to have a grey screen. Was is ever working? I swear it had something in the early years. Why can’t they just put some foliage instead of the screen and call it a day? That part is always jarring.

I believe it's always been like that.

Interesting discussion topic-

If the King Kong Encounter didn’t burn down in 2008, would this attraction not exist? Or do you think Kong 360 was in the works before the fire happened?

We might still have gotten a keep ride with an epic gate opening scene and dinosaurs on it, but probably not as quickly
