I occasionally visit KidZone to ride the water slide, and I had never heard of this. Maybe they should advertise it more.

Not only do they do the meet and greets there, but they pump in that catchy song the whole time on repeat!!

Late to the party but trolls is crazy popular. It had a Christmas special this past year on NBC, for example. What else has had that? Madagascar and Shrek. It’s that level.

But it can sell merch better than the two of those combined. And both of those IPs have their own rides or lands depending on the park.

Trolls would be a smash with my kids and their friends for sure.

Trolls 2 comes out in 2020. If they moved on this quickly, it could be done.

KidZone literally cannot get any worse, and Trolls could make for some fun theming. So yea, I hope this turns out to be true.

Does anyone know what the average time in advance families plan their trips?

Universal has this data- but for arguments sake- say it’s 6 months. They would want to plan an attraction to open ~9 months after it would come out in theater. 3 months of popularity building, and then people book their trip for Little Johnny and Janey to see branch and poppy when the ride opens in 6 months.

So for JW- an attraction wouldn’t need to be done until a few months after JW came out.
And for trolls- 9 months after trolls 2 comes out.

Another example is Christmas itinerary coming out last month- 9 months early.

So there is actually more time than what’s on the surface.

Never looked at it that way. It's smart to open a ride AFTER you know the film didn't flop.

I don't have hard data, but I've heard people plan their vacations much later than what we would probably think. Most guests aren't planning much further than 4-5 months out.

In the UK a majority of people plan their trips to Orlando at least 12-18 months in advance, I know the UK only provides a small percentage of the overall visitor totals in Orlando but it may be something that many foreign visitors do.

True, I should have said "domestic guests" in my post. Good point

that's weird i heard most people plan their trips to theme parks only 6-8 weeks in advance.

We planned our trip to Seattle about 7 weeks out. Granted, it's not a theme park, but I imagine most people who aren't "theme park junkies" expect the amount of advanced planning theme parks require.

That's about the timeframe I've heard for domestic guests, but again, I do not have any hard data on it.

Even domestic guests will vary, but I'd venture it's something like this:

If you're a domestic guest within 200 miles of the theme park, then you probably plan your trip at most 3 months in advance.

If you're a domestic guest outside of that range, that range is probably a bit wider from around 3 to 6 months in advance.

If you're a foreign guest, planning a year out makes sense.

As a Floridian who regularly hosts family traveling to Orlando (family around the US and Britain that visit me before going to the theme parks), the time frames definitely vary for how they plan their trips with my British extended family planning much further in advance than the US based parts of the family. As for my own trips to the theme parks, they're on short notice given my transit is a 2 hour or so drive.

We usually would start planning in April for September/October trips and for January trips to Disney probably in September/October

This is very interesting...According to TPI, Dreamworks Animation has just filed a trademark application for "Trolls Topia". The application reads, "Amusement park attraction and theme park services;live stage performances, providing waterpark performances;providing recreational areas for entertainment and amusement, namely interactive play areas"....There you have it. Sounds like things are getting serious.....Looks like that can convert the theming of some existing attractions in addition to a new attraction.
