So, no one knows what it will be still. Wake me when it is announced...
zzzzzzzzz...Hibernating Teebin Teddy Bears......:)....The execution of the show is more important than the IP anyway. The IP is to get people to buy a ticket and spend money on merchandise. Give me a well written, not corny, fun, entertaining show experience, and I'm happy.

When I heard about this project it was Bond or Bourne with live actors, screens, and effects. T23D 2.0.

Not Dreamworks.

Not StarTrek.

I just don't see Bourne as a Theme Park IP. Bond on the other hand , yes, but .........

It would fit far better over the other side of the park, London expansion into FFL and not Hollywood.

I'm not sold on either of these going into T2. Bond is also a stretch as being a Uni IP. But i'm just an outsider who knows nadda.

Let's hear it for us "Outsiders".  We're not Number One, but we try harder. :)

If they could use the area behind Makeup & Horror show the theater could be huge. What if it was a "great movie ride" kind of theater in the round show/experience. We would experience a show presenting many of the older and new classics. Together with the Horror & makeup show and ET this would be a lovely nostalgic tribute area to Universal Studios movies.

Screw all other options. After streaming the album today, the only show we should get is the Spongebob Squarepants Musical.

I wondered if someone would bring that up. ;)

To give a perspective of size of just the building itself.

I feel like a lot immediate "Bourne won't happen" is ignoring a good bit of context being spelt out in this thread.

Bourne would be the IP if Universal doesn't win the rights to Bond. It's a Plan B. Ignoring Plan A removes the potential of the attraction for BOTH franchises.

So, let's stop focusing on Plan B and look at the potential of Plan A.

The car chases could be recreated the same way T2:3D did a motorcycle chase. There's precedent for that sort of this in that same space.

The construction requires demo of all the Terminator effects, and installing the mechanisms for Bond. They could do car and bike intros/exits. With a city scape and projection mapping they could do some awesome stuff.

All the smoke is coming from the Bond fire.

And to the point of Comcast going with "sure things?" Fallon.

IF they get the "rights" to Bond, it would be like Harry Potter or Marvel. They will NEVER own the movies, they would - at most - simply have the right to use the character in the theme parks. The Bond films have always been independent productions that have been distributed by the larger movie studios. Distributing a film does NOT give you rights to the character. So Bond IS NOT and WILL NEVER BE a "Universal franchise" in the same exact way that Harry Potter is NOT a "Universal franchise" and the Marvel canon is NOT a "Universal franchise". (Someone hinted above that "Universal franchise" could be the safety phrase in case they don't get Bond... that doesn't make any sense. Then they would've just said something like "International Action Legend" or something else that is WAAAAAY more exciting than "Universal franchise", something that would be inclusive of both characters. Besides, if it ends up being Bond, then they will be on the receiving end of tons of flak for that misleading "Universal franchise" bit.)

Nothing you are presenting can be remotely considered a "live action" show. You're talking a filmed attraction with an occasional live element. By your definition, T2:3-D was a "live action show". It wasn't. Yes, the PR might end up being misleading, but it would have to be almost ENTIRELY misleading, something Universal hasn't exhibited in the past when it comes to their press releases.

And Comcast's "sure thing" wasn't Fallon. It was "The Tonight Show". Which is still the #1 show in late night. By a wide margin. (Unfortunately.) That attraction was all about selling NBC/Comcast merchandise, so it was a smart, cheap way to make that happen.

I'm not saying I think you're wrong, but I hope this isn't the calculation that Universal makes. I feel like replacing a more teen/adult-skewing show like T2 with something more explicitly aimed at younger audiences or families would be a huge mistake. Nintendo is going to handle that, plus perhaps whatever might eventually replace Shrek.

T2's replacement should be in the same general genre, I feel.

Not necessarily. Barney is disappearing soon. We all know Shrek isn't long for this world. That's two younger-skewing shows going away, three if Nintendo needs the Animal Actors space. They NEED a family-style show more than they need a teen-skewing show. Teen-skewing is basically the rest of this park! Even better, though, a Kung Fu Panda martial arts/acrobatic show or a Dragon-flying show would target a wider age range than Barney currently does. I know I'd see either of those shows. Probably repeatedly.

I'm not saying I'm right either. I'm just throwing out there what makes more sense. I would certainly rather see either of these shows than a Bourne show. And I'm sure most people would agree, according to box office receipts. DWA would sell way more merch also, which is often the biggest reason IPs are chosen. My biggest problem with a Jason Bourne show is its complete lack of merchandising promise (Bond, on the other hand, would sell merch). If this doesn't turn into a DWA show, then that means they have bigger plans for those "franchises", meaning either DreamWorks Lagoon or a land in the new park.

If it's a stunt show type thing, what happens to Sindbad?

Nothing. Two different parks. Plus, they'd clearly be two different types of stunt shows. Not that Sindbad is safe. There are three areas in UO not pulling their weight: Toon Lagoon, the Fear Factor Live theater, and Lost Continent. The Mario-centric land going into KidZone makes it seem like Nintendo will go the Harry Potter route with different Nintendo lands throughout the resort. Other than a Yoshi/Donkey Kong retheming of Toon Lagoon, the only real way to put Nintendo in this park would be to redo Lost Continent with a Zelda theme. While Link isn't as widely known as many of the Nintendo mascots, his games have a rabid fanbase that shouldn't be ignored. This smallish island is perfect for that property: big enough for a couple of inventive E-Tickets; small enough to not pull focus from the premier lands.

But that's what would be perfect for this exact moment in time. After the Harry Potter coaster, the next item on the agenda will probably be the Toon Lagoon retheme, as it's a cheap way to advertise "new" attractions and to get another Universal franchise - or franchises - into the park. Whether it'll be an Illumination-themed land, a DWA-themed land, or a land themed to just one film (Madagascar being the obvious choice for this watery land) is still up in the air. Then we'll probably be getting the Diagon Alley expansion and the third park. By then, there will be a lot more options to replace Lost Continent.

As Tankart150 mentioned, The Goddard Group has actually concocted a James Bond stunt show. It's a huge spectacle-type show, which would never ever EVER fit into the T2 theater. It would probably have to be put into the Sindbad theater. It wouldn't be all that cheap, as the volcano the theater would be located in is located in "Japan", which would require a retheme of the entire Lost Continent. But a retheme could also include a new Bond attraction for Poseidon's Fury. (And Mythos could turn into a teppanyaki restaurant!!!) This is another reason I have issues with this whole T-2/James Bond business. Universal has worked with The Goddard Group on many attractions. I can't see them ignoring this bit of excellence for something that would go into a 700-seat theater. Bond isn't just a 700-seat show; Bond is a full-on land.

I think people need to remember something, something that is important and that it should be heard in the mention of the Goddard.

That, was 20+ years ago. You are dealing with a different era of technology and growth, and that the Goddard attraction would've been based off of what is now, a dated version of the Bond-Persona.

Could Bond be coming to Universal? Maybe, but that I don't think it will be at this location. Nor do I think that the 1+ year timeframe will mean that they will simply gut out the mechanics of the current attraction and put in a new version with Jason Bourne.

To be quite honest, I think a Fallon-like timeline for this project could actually be possible, and unlike Fallon; the work could primarily go for the showbuilding and extending it to accommodate a new experience entirely.

Just some thoughts, but I thought it'd be better to put it out as opposed to withholding.

They're not going to build out the theater. If they wanted a huge theater, they have the Fear Factor Live theater, the Sindbad theater and the Toon Lagoon theater, none of which are currently featuring anything worthwhile. This theater was chosen as it'll obviously be a smaller production.

But it would be nice for Universal to feature some sort of attraction reminiscent of USH's early days, like a sound effects show or the early Hitchcock/Earthquake "movie magic" stuff. Before they moved it into the big theater, the Special Effects Stages at USH was a very popular show that managed to be informational, entertaining and nostalgic.

But nostalgia is really the entire reason Bond exists. People like to remember the old stuff as well as seeing the new. Casino Royale and Skyfall were more successful than those other two Daniel Craig yawnfests partly because they dabbled more in the 007 canon than the other two did. There's no reason the entire history of Bond can't be combined into an entertaining show. "Wow, we're walking into the volcano from You Only Live Twice! OMG, he's jetpacking in! Ooh, there's a laser! Hey, there's Jaws! He took that dude's head off with a hat! There's the Aston Martin! Yay, James Bond is parkouring!" Even if you don't know that stuff, it could still be fun to watch, just like it all was the first time we saw it.

It couldn't be worse than Sindbad.

You have to keep in mind though, NBCUniversal/Comcast, for the case of Bond; would probably rather want to go with the best version, and I wouldn't think they would go and bring in the campy side.

And that they will go to the GP, not the fans. In theory, this would have to be the way of making synergy with also bringing a world-renown IP that people know due to the different types of Bond that we have seen. If you isolate to one specific timeframe in the Bond-series, you will alienate audiences, and that it will cause problems more-so than having Jason Bourne at the parks.

I don't think it would necessarily go to the campy side. These stunt shows have kind of a formula, one that doesn't change all that much from show to show. WaterWorld and Miami Vice are practically the same show with a few tweaks here and there. Take either show, change the set, make the leads 007 and a Bond Girl, and ta-dah, you've got a Bond show!

"SPECTRE's volcano lair is bustling with villains. Bond and Bond Girl rappel down from the opening. They fight with the minions, parkour-style. Bond is captured. He's almost lasered to death. Bond Girl helps him escape. They find some jetskis and fight on the water. People zipline. People fall to their deaths. Explosions. Blofeld tries to escape via helicopter and Bond shoots him down, the helicopter crashing back down into the hole. The end! Thank you for coming to WaterWorld: Version 007. Enjoy the rest of your day at Universal Studios Florida!"

Okay, I'm about to become even MORE annoying!

The Universal Monsters "Dark Universe" (eye roll) was touched upon earlier, but really only as a walkthrough attraction, which we know won't happen. But why can't they be a show? Why can't they be the Graveyard Revue come back to life?

Honestly, this makes more sense than even the DreamWorks stuff. The original show was fairly beloved. If they remove Beetlejuice entirely, it can fit better into the Dark Universe canon. Even better, the "Bride of Frankenstein" movie comes out in 2019 for some nice synergy. And updating this theater with what's required of a rock performance would better explain that long timeframe. Though this theater is still much smaller than the old Graveyard Revue theater, a problem that can be solved by scaling it down, which allows for more performances.

If it were me, I'd do it in a second. Monsters merch sells, and during HHN, they can create a scarier, more adult version. With the Horror Make-Up Show just up the street, I'd retheme all of Hollywood Blvd to a sort of Transylvania theme, which would also be great for HHN. It would also remove most of the park's Hollywood theme, which is in far too many parks as far as I'm concerned. I'd demolish Mel's Diner and build a more immersive Universal Monsters Cafe, or do a dine-in theater concept in a lavish Phantom-style theater which would show Universal Monster clips.

This would fit the PR pretty well, though "live action" gives me a little pause. But I feel nothing fits that weird "Universal franchise" phrase better than the Monsters. What other concept could the Monsters do in here? I feel anything too horror-related and there would be too much crossover with the Make-Up Show. A sound-effects show - a popular part of the Special Effects Stages at USH - would work in this space, probably better than anything scripted using these characters. It was a live audience-participation stage show using screens, and it was something Universal was always able to update with whatever scary movie happened to be the most recent. A cheap, synergistic merch-seller. Win/win/win.

The theater is being redone, I'm certain of that.

Still think that Bourne is a foolhardy move. WaterWorld is a creature of circumstance and a strangely theme park friendly concept. I just don't see how Bourne has any current appeal nor any way to properly translate to a satisfying, PG theme park experience. It feels like an idea that's DOA. At least Fallon has an aura of fun... Bourne is gritty and violent without much pulp.

I hope that doesn't happen.
