Hey, My family is hosting a even at Hard Rock Live in August, this will be our second event hosted there, but im just wondering if it would be a bad idea to walk around backstage (Universal Backlot)? The first event we had there was during hhn and you can see the actors going to houses etc, but do you think i would get in trouble if i just walk around? I would not go into any thing that says i can't go into. So can I walk around the backlot? or do you think I should not?

If you're authorized to go backstage then, sure, it's okay. If you're not I wouldn't suggest it. Especially since individuals have been banned for going backstage and not being TM's.

TL;DR Don't do it.

If you're hosting the event at Hard Rock Live, why would you be able to walk around backstage at Universal Studios? The Hard Rock Live and Islands of Adventure share the same backstage areas, with some of the Universal Soundstages being adjacent to the Hard Rock Live. However, if you do not have any sort of ID that authorizes you to be backstage, you will most likely be escorted out of backstage, or even the park, by security.

(Soruce: I am a UO TM)

I remember for the first event we would drive into the back gate and give them our ids check us in or something, and then keep our ids until we leave. Is this considered authorization?

No.

The backstage areas are generally unsafe and they don't want to be liable for any injury you may incur. Its also a very quick way to get trespassed from the parks for a while. I know its instant termination for employees to bring non TMs backstage and then they get trespassed.

Do we really need to be talking about this here? I feel like this thread could lead to people getting bad ideas...

Since Tom cleared this up, I vote :lock1:

I find this surprising as I have been taken backstage (from onstage) by "manager" friends a couple of times. I have walked around in buildings where ent. performers were watching tv and playing cards between shows. I never had the sense that I shouldn't have been there.

There are some exceptions made by Managers and VIP tour guides of course, but typically its forbidden.

A Manager generally has more say than the average person. Honestly while it may be friendly back there it could be because you were accompanied by a higher up. However, if approached by security there would most likely be problems. I happen to know quite a few people who were term'd for it.

I'm not even sure why someone would think walking around the backstage area of a theme park is even an option. :inquisitive: Like.. no? Especially if you don't work there. Maybe I'm overreacting

You're not. If you're not an employee, don't go backstage. That goes for Universal, Disney, anywhere.

Theres nothing particularly interesting back there anyway...get your fill of backstage during Horror Nights

Would you want to?

I've been semi back stage at DL after having being evaced from a ride and it was messy, full of garbage and ash trays. It smelled bad... I don't want to know my beloved parks are like that I like the magic.

Your friends are lucky they have their jobs, I know a veteran entertainment employee who was fired for doing exactly that. They are strict about that for liability & insurance reasons.

If you have a badge that lets you, I would totally do it! Take as much advantage of the badge as possible lol
The "badge" he's talking about sounds like a CW drive-on pass. It entitles you to park in a designated area for the purpose of an event, but not wander around the support facilities unescorted...

I mean you could always use the typical excuse "I didn't know what all this pass let me into" if you get caught! When exploring, play dumb :p
