Honestly, going muddin' with the Cars characters sounds low-key appealing.

The talk over on Magic about where this is going is concerning!

Yeah, I increasingly think TSI is toast.

And that, in isolation, isn't even the real loss (though it is a loss; it's something Walt Disney felt strongly about, and we need more Walt touchstones to remain).

The real loss is the Liberty Belle and the kinetic energy of the Rivers of America.

I fervently hope for wisdom and good sense to prevail.

Josh's evasive language certainly seemed to suggest that.

And getting rid of TSI and the riverboat means they can build the hotel that connects to the park. If the canal doesn’t have to be used for towing the riverboat to the dry dock for rehab the can build a non-lifting bridge.

This is a full land with multiple attractions that's starting construction next year. Plus it's based on an IP AND there's not going to be another pandemic soon, so there's no incentive to cancel it. This is nowhere close to the same situation as the Play Pavillion and Main Street Theatre.

What’s been canceled as of late is 2 glorified indoor playgrounds and a theater, I think what was announced, and stated pre-presentation as already in groundbreaking phases which afaik isn’t considered blue sky, should be enough to give them the benefit of the doubt at least for now.

Yep, this is the other part of it. Liberty Belle glowing away or getting permanently docked means they can get rid of the “light show channel” and earnestly expand beyond Adventureland. Also spells doom for the Water Paegent

Not necessarily— they can dock it back near the drydock area. Especially now that there’s no parasailing back on Bay Lake, they can set up a place there for it.

Cool, but we don’t need this huge dollop of cynicism in every single thread. We get it. You’re skeptical. We don’t need to get hit over the head with it in every thread.

Not to mention, this is a project where they literally said they're starting construction next year. And from what's been rumored on where it's going and such, that's gonna' take a bit to get done.

I'm gonna be real here....this was my least favorite announcement for WDW.

I don't hate the ride concept art in isolation....I just don't think this belongs at Magic Kingdom. I think this kind of ride should go at DHS and replace the Indy stunt show. I'll even go ahead and say the unthinkable by saying this would be a better fit at Animal Kingdom. Yeah, I said it. Fight me. At least by putting it there, you can try to make it fit by having animals thrown in there and set in the Himalayas or something. They're gonna make that "work" for Encanto and Indy, so why not here? You could even have a cameo of the yeti from Monsters Inc offering the riders a snow cone! I just think Magic Kingdom is way too "traditional" in nature to make this work.

It would be one thing if this was going in "Beyond Big Thunder" and was a little more isolated (Which is what I hope they're doing here), but the latest rumors kinda worry me a bit. Really hoping its going where it "should" (Beyond BT)....but Disney thinking about how they can cut operational costs does concern me. I dont think it's fair to shut this rumor down when there is talk of replacing stuff for Monsters Inc, when they clearly don't need to (GMR > MMRR situation anyone?)

Well, if the worst case scenario does come true, at least Disneyland will still have the Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer Island.....for now at least.

I'm skeptical that many of these location "rumors" are anything other than people with an incentive to create engaging content making educated guesses (and even then, I'm being generous).

I feel if they can incorporate this into Frontierland then it will be a call back to how the parks use to be, generic land with multi IP attractions. This doesn't seem to be Radiator Springs or based on a location in the movies so yeah, I will give them the benefit of the doubt with this one especially if they can keep it frontierland with a cars attraction(s) vs carsland in frontierland.

This was the big disappointment for me out of D23. This makes no sense at all in Frontierland, or MK period.

I know a lot of users here don’t have a complete understanding of how Disney operations can affect Imagineering, so let me just throw this in there. Typically, when a new attraction comes in, something will close to offset the costs… even if the new attraction isn’t replacing anything. There are exceptions all the time, but the scale of these announcements tells me that things are going to be closing as well to keep the operating costs roughly the same as they are now. Am I a fan of this? Not really. Do I understand why it’s done? Absolutely.

Also… no. No way cars could be in the Himalayas at AK. There aren’t really sports cars or a racing culture in that part of the world. And do we really want to promote gas powered vehicles (not actual ones, obviously) in a park dedicated to saving and protecting the environment? I don’t think so

I really hate to double post (but felt it would be necessary to try to make this point)…

But, as much as I agree with you, I also remind myself it’s been 70 years since Walt had his idea for what a “Frontierland” meant. Could road trip/highway culture be historically thought of as a new frontier, nowadays? I think so.

Look, as long as there is some kind of buffer between this and, say, Big Thunder, then I think it is a natural, thematic continuation of the spirit of Frontierland. If not… that would really be a huge bummer, and wrong for the story of the land.

Tbh, this concept fits the bill for an extension of Frontierland more than Splash and Tiana ever could, in a way.

On the contrary, the concept shows the ride taking place in what is considered a frontier, based on the meaning/definition of what a frontier is traditionally. One can even argue that radiator springs is located on a frontier being so isolated and not in a settlement. Ironically, it's the one announcement that actually does make the most sense.

I'm glad they aren't getting lazy and just cloning RSR and the idea of having your RVs going over varied terrain that looks far steeper that RSR looks pretty neat to me.

However, Cars kinda feels like a franchise that while may not be dead, doesn't really make a splash nowadays. If I was running things at the Disney Parks it would not be an IP high up on the list to add attractions for.

I immediately thought TSI was done when I heard the announcement so I guess i'm not as disappointed in hearing about it now. Especially because I never go over there and I assume most people don't so while TSI is a loss that does trace back to Walt, idk. I'm looking at it like this is going to be a very popular Cars area with multiple rides in an area of the park that most people didn't go to before. I can't personally complain too much there, although losing the Liberty Belle would be rough.
