So much for the desire for original attractions. This "emotional connection" thing is extremely overhyped imo.

Well you can develop an emotional connection to a ride over time, it doesn't have to be instant. It can be earned. The Haunted Mansion is probably my favorite Disney ride. I love the music, the tone, the memorable scenes and the good mix of comedy and horror. I was terrified the first time I rode it when I was little though. It took more than a decade before it became my favorite. Nostalgia and knowing the attraction's history played a part in that.

Emotional connections to a ride can also be instant because places you know are featured like Soarin, it uses an IP you love like Frozen, or maybe you connect to it because it speaks to you in some way or surprises/impresses you that first time. FoP can be all of those things, depending on the person.

I know damn well that I have an emotional connection to the parks, and the rides within, due to memories. It happens with almost everyone.

Emotional connection is what got me back to Universal. Without HP, it might have been another 10 years before I came back to the parks because the cost wasn't justified. But now I'm going as often as I can, and that has been directly related to Potter.

I haven't watched the new Soarin movie, but I don't think I'd start man-crying at the sight of the Eifel Tower, and I've actually been to Paris.

Emotional doesn't mean crying. It could be fear, anger, sadness, elation.

I don't dislike Soarin. I actually like it. But it's kind of over rated. Low capacity & the fact it's in a park with few evenly mild thrill attractions, helps it to stand out. If it was at Universal people would be ho hum middlin about it. My bottom line take is it's good but not great.

But also, it's a ride people of all ages and MOST sizes can enjoy. I can tell you that Soarin is very popular with those over 50. The appeal is to a very large general range of people.

This stuck out to me. I was told in 2014 New Fantasyland was driving attendance with some on twitter swearing up and down they heard and knew people booking just for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. This was in response to Diagon Alley and people saying NFL wasn't enough for the resort. Now it's "a joke". I simply don't buy what you're saying based on prior hyperbole.

Do you buy it now?

No doubt it's popular, especially with older people. But it's still just a good attraction, not a great attraction. It's popularity is largely because it's in a park with few meaningful great attractions, and it's long lines are also predicated on it's low to middlin capacity. Test Track is probably the closest to a top ten or top fifteen WDW attraction.

They're were numerous sections yesterday where I was like oh that will change lol. The bridge in the Na'vi river queue while albeit is very low has a huge open section in it. Told the wife, well that will last a month.

Is the desire of flight and discovering a new world not a big enough emotional connection to people? To say something isn't a good experience because there aren't enough "emotional connections" is extremely subjective. Haven't we all wanted to soar through the air like superheroes since we were little kids?

Or were you the type of kid who wishes his superpower was being able to become invisible...

The desire to fly is so strong that it can support an attraction that otherwise would be considered very mediocre - Eddie Sotto taught me ages ago it's a key breason why Dumbo is so popular. It keys into a core shared desire among people regardle of age, race, etc.. People generally don't give two craps about Dumbo as a film or anything, but overlaying it onto the simple spinner gives it the very distinct "flight" nod that something like Triceratops Spin misses out on.

First line of Avatar (the movie):

Jake Sully: [Narrating] When I was lying in the V.A. hospital with a big hole blown through the middle of my life, I started having these dreams of flying. I was free.

From the reviews, I'm so happy for disney as a whole. I mean they've been popped right in the mouth twice in 7 years by universal. This was a long time coming.
