Are you guys watching the same news I'm watching? There's no way the parks will be open on Sunday. I'm skeptical of them being open Monday. This thing is a monster.

I'm hoping the floating mountains don't "float" away.

Nobody's saying the parks will be open Sunday.

Kings Island sounds like a good alternative for a staycation. At least it's safe.

Kings Island is closed for daily operation and is closed this weekend for a rent out. CP is closed daily too but is open this weekend.

Could always hijack the park like Chevy Chase did in "Vacation". ;)

To be quite honest, I am actually shocked they aren't closing the parks tomorrow and that lasting through a portion of next week.

I wish everyone the best of luck if they try to endure the Hurricane, and that I especially have to wonder just how large will the damage be for the parks, particularly the all of the temp venues being used for events and what-not.

Friday will be fine operationally. The outer bands won't even start moving into Orlando until early Saturday. I think we'll see operational announcement roll out early tomorrow for the weekend.

EDIT: Actually, it looks like the winds will move in on Sunday. I think parks will close as normal on Saturday and then the crews will come in and mothball what they can before the winds move in on Sunday morning.

The distance between Irma and Florida is smaller than the storm itself.

No other way to put it, this is one scary storm. The impact in Central FL will range from somewhere between bad to extreme.

It looks like Irma won't make its turn until sometime between 12PM and 6PM on Saturday. An earlier turn will most likely have the eye grazing the East coast or slightly offshore. A later turn will most likely have the eye moving through Southern Florida and then inland up through the state. If it comes up through the middle of the state, Orlando could see 100mph sustained winds. Waiting for the turn is far too late to get prepared, so I really stress that everyone should be prepared for the worst and to do so ASAP. And as always, hope for the best.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the last forecast I saw said it would be a category 4 all the way up to Jacksonville.

Last I saw it showed CAT 3 north of Lake Okeechobee. However it doesn't matter if it's a 3, 4 or even 1. There will be a good bit of damage either way if it heads over directly over Orlando and would expect park closure for several days at least if it does. I've lived through an inland Cat 1 (Hugo) and it took weeks for the city (Charlotte) to get back to some type of normal.

Oh, and my favorite hint. Remember, you can eat soups like progresso or chunky right out of the can. They are completely safe and do not need to be reheated.

And in Florida they are pre heated if the AC goes out :)

At this point, the GFS and Euro are lining up and running this thing right up through the center of the state. The GFS is showing sustained winds close to 100 and the gusts hit the chart max at 120, so who knows how high that will be. It's like this all the way to North Florida. This isn't going to be pretty. If you live in a stick frame house or apartment, event in the Orlando area, I'd consider getting somewhere safer.

Florida, we will make it through this. Today is the last day for final preparation (if you're riding it out). Make sure you have everything ready and strap down.

I saw earlier today. It's a huge storm. Typhoon Tip is still the largest. It would have covered half of the contiguous United States. Weird thing about Irma is that the NHC is now showing it heading into the heart of the midwest and away from Ohio now. I wish that she would take the hint that no one wants her around. Maybe she and Jose could go party out in the Atlantic, instead.

People are definitely taking the planning of it seriously, too. For about 3-4 days now, I would've had a better chance of finding a needle in a haystack than I have of finding water. It's next to impossible to find.

Winn Dixie here has one of those stations where you can refill gallon bottles, 35c, so if you have empty bottles try that.

Something I saw, (and it may have been here but I'm reading a lot of boards right now, so I'm not sure) is get a bunch of gallon ziplock bags and fill them with tap water now and put them in your freezer. If the power goes out they will keep things cold longer. When they melt you have clean water.

This is something my mom always does during tropical storms and hurricanes. It's a great thing to have just in case.

I usually do it with soda bottles, but yes. 100% do this.

Also, fill bath tubs with water for cleaning or toilet flushing. You can use your washing machine as a temp cooler. I also turn down the a/c right before the storm hits a bit more cooler to keep the house "pre-cooled" in case of power outage.
