As someone who is a super fan of the first movie, I never thought I'd see this. So excited.

Through the years; there has been development for the sequel to the 2014 film, Pacific Rim. Now; there is an official director attached to the sequel.

Steven S. DeKnight, will be directing the upcoming installment for Pacific Rim. His line of work comes from shows and films like Daredevil, Buffy, and scripted Prometheus.

There is as of yet; no release date for the future film, but this is big news; as Del Toro has said of him writing the script.

So, Thoughts?

Universal better keep the budget low on this, because outside of China this is going to flop.

Two things..

1.) Pacific Rim 2 will have JW Screenwriter Derek Conolly take on the script for the film.

2.) John Boyega will be reportedly attached to play the lead character for the new film.

It also seems like from sources that he will be playing the son of Idris Elba's character from Pacific Rim..

Here is a twitter post from Del Toro last year:

Had lunch with Maisie Williams yesterday. Remarkable. Dammit- if PR2 happens, that girl is getting a Jaeger.

Now that would be something.

It has also been retitled to Pacific Rim: Uprising (the previous name was Pacific Rim: Maelstrom).

A pair of "suits" connected to a roboarm suspended from an overhead track is what was described to me as "Iron Legion".

Now I'm wondering.

It was much better than I anticipated but the pacing isn't like most American films and is very similar to the pacing of most Asian films. I also don't think it will do well reception wise in America with the messaging the film portrays as its very pro-women and pro-China.

It doesn't play itself like a transformer film because unless the recent transformer film this film really doesn't play itself seriously.
