In another huge move to take on The Mouse, Comcast has partnered with Netfix to bring the streaming service to Comcast's X1 Xfinity cable boxes across the country.

Isn't The Mouse partnered with Netflix too? I had just thought this was Netflix getting into more and more devices, even though they are pretty much already in everything.

Netflix Announces Exclusive Streaming of Disney Movies

*Edited to change Comcast to Netflix. Englishing is hard

The mouse is actually partnered with Hulu. But have cut a deal with Netflix to stream Disney/MARVEL content.

That was before this most recent deal. Disney's deal with Netflix is unaffected. What this does though is take Comcast one step closer to a usable VOD platform. Which is something Disney has been fighting tooth and nail.

Thanks for clarifying and also correctly reading what I obviously mis-typed. I'm going to fix that now, so someone doesn't accidentally confuse it

This is pretty big.. also worth noting is Dreamworks is real cozy with Netflix.. or was? i wonder what this means for Universal content on Netflix now that Comcast customers will have direct access to Netflix.. im surprised no mammoth has purchased Netflix.

Comcast already has a strong VOD platform. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime are really the only other players.

Having Netflix on your set top box you don't need a Smart TV, Blu Ray, or Game system to watch Netflix.

Anything Disney fights tooth and nail is worth doing. I mean that in all seriousness.

Comcast still has its stake in Hulu though (just can't change ops due to monopoly rules).

What I'm wondering is how corporate moves in different divisions are somehow always brought back to the same, tired topic: Disney v. Universal

Because Comcast and Disney are utter rivals thanks to the some things that happened in the past. Comcast almost pulled a hostile takeover of Disney yet failed and this seems to be their way of showing revenge.

I'm aware of that. Doesn't mean every move that both companies make is to spite the other. In the end, it's all about making money.

When they are in the exact same business in every division (ESPN/NBC sports, UNIVERSAL STUDIOS/WDW, FANDUEL/DRAFTKING, AWESOMENESSTV/MAKER STUDIOS) except with cable/internet as disney doesn't have one, most actions are in fact to spite the other and make more than the other.

Disney and Comcast are the top 2 media companies on the planet. The parks divisions are small beans in this battle. These 2 companies have a long history going back to Comcast's failed hostile takeover bid for The DisCo. It not only cost them millions, but embarrassed them in the financial world. This is personal and Comcast has courted or hired anyone with an ax to grind with the mouse. The CEO of NBC/Universal, Steve Burke, was being personally groomed by Michael Eisner to be the next CEO. He would love to kick the mouse in the teeth. Thierry Coup is another. There are many more.

Comcast, pretty much only has 2 motivators.

1. Kick Mickey Mouse in the teeth......hard.

2. To take over the world.

I think you are ascribing a little too much to this move. It might be because most of our cable providers in Canada had Netflix on their set top boxes then actually relented the other direction and created their own VOD platforms.

I see it less as a "move" and more as a very late to the game failure on Comcast's behalf to get their own platform off the ground. When you are one of the last TV platforms to the party it seems more like Netflix has made the final checkmate then the other way around.

It's not like Comcast purchased a stake or bought Netflix, that would be insanely newsworthy.

Yeah I don't see the big thing about Netflix on Comcast boxes. Makes it easier for people to pay money to Netflix.

Disney buying a stake of MLB Advanced Media though....that seems like it could generate more money.

Netflix is a $56 billion company. And Comcast does have a good VOD platform already, but now with the addition of Netflix they have most of the content availble, available on one platform.

Yep. Disney gets 1/3 ownership. That's big.

Ya, I'm extremely neutral on Comcast as they aren't really a company of any bearing up here. No real ingrained like or dislike other than they are the company that has helped revive Universal parks.

That said, I think this has pretty much nothing to do with Disney. It's not a win for Comcast. It is a win for Netflix.

Read the article again.... it reaches the same conclusion I did in the first half sentence. I just don't see how this has anything to do with the fanboi Disney vs. Universal "war". Where and how are you reaching this conclusion? We don't have Hulu here so I'm pretty clueless about it, but maybe that's what you mean.

A move against Apple Tv/Roku? Sure, sort of.

But again, it's more of a failure from my perspective. What took them so long to get there?
