The movie has re-released for the 15th anniversary (which was actually in February this year) and the theaters have been PACKED. This movie is going to make more money this weekend than DM4. Like the IP is a real cultural zeitgeist at this point. It sells a frick ton of merch as well.

And it got me thinking, could a Coraline haunted house dark ride pull in crowds equivalent to the other (much bigger) IP within the park. Like a dedicated spooky attraction that's themed to a family IP that everyone loves (that isn't Forbbiden Journey, lol. This would be a very classic dark ride).

I don't know, just food for thought.

I would love to see a spooky Henry Selick dark ride at some point, whether that be a year-round Nightmare Before Christmas ride at a Disney park or something like this. The style is timeless and would be really interesting to see adapted into the medium of themed attractions, animatronics, etc.

In all likelihood though, Universal has too many uber-profitable family friendly IP between Illumination, Dreamworks, Nintendo, etc for them to throw a bone to a 15 year old film that didn't spawn a franchise imo. None of that is a knock against Coraline as a film, but it just wouldn't push the needle enough to justify the expense to the suits. Horror Nights representation might be all we could ever expect.

Nice thought, but it won’t happen. At least they won’t make a unique dark ride to the park after the unfortunate failure of SLoP.

I could've sworn Alicia talking about USH looking into a Pop Culture event.

I think a Coraline experience made for a limited time engagement would probably do better than it would as a permanent attraction.

Combine that with the Laika Experience having a "Temporary" like residency where you enter the showbuilding as if you go into the Coraline tunnel (and seeing the giant house that has been on display on tours) would be marvelous.

Perhaps they could pull the ride system from an upcoming dark ride Orlando is getting and put a different theme on top of it to make it unique to USH. With the lower lot rumored for expansion in the SS 16-24 plot, this could be a great opportunity to try again with a large scale family dark ride.

Universal Creative made some crucial blunders when they were designing the ride from the less than accommodating restraint system for bigger body types and spacing out the RVs so the adoption scene could work which in turn cut down on the capacity.

only been on it once…and yeah even for me I’m 6 foot not that heavy set and it was a pretty tight seat for no reason… I know it’s because of the ride design but why design it like that!? lol

I think @Clive talked about this in another thread (The Parisian courtyard thread if I recall) that the pandemic kinda screwed it over. It didn’t draw the crowds they hoped and the operations are not what they wanted.

Coraline HHN Maze.

Most obvious option, maybe at a similar level of scariness as Ghostbusters.

I can see that. Definitely just opened and there was not a real hype for it once it opened

They’re not touching Gaiman. He’s had a rough couple of months.

People can research why.
