It's the answer you all don't want to hear, but Dragon Challenge and Flight of the Hippogriff. Both dragons and the Hippgriff are in the book. The opening team members for both attractions were asked to read the book before the rides opened.

Sorry, no. They wouldn't be saying the attractions are "in the works" if they already existed.

The only thing I have read, and with a quick search can find is "Tsujihara said Fantastic Beasts won’t only be a film series, but also a video game and an attraction within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at theme parks run by Universal Parks and Resorts."

He didn't say they are adding an attraction. He didn't say one is "in the works". He said there will be an attraction based on it, and Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challange already are. More Hippo then DC since the DC theme goes more into the Triwizard Tournament. But Hippogriffs are all Fantastic Beasts

I'd love a Fantastic Beasts dark ride. I'm sure we'll be seeing lots of new creatures in the forthcoming movies. They're talking franchise so I'm guessing at least 3 movies.

C'mon, man. If the attractions already existed, he would have said that. Saying that there will be attractions does not lead to thinking there are attractions based on the franchise already.

Hippogriff is clearly a Potter ride. It is not based off the Fantastic Beasts IP.

I have to agree with JS here. He wouldn't have gone out of his way to mention that only to crush peoples hopes when they find out the attraction has been there.

Now this whole rollercoaster "eyesore" thing really is starting to annoy me.

I agree that its not the prettiest coaster to look at but am I focusing on that when Im riding? No. Im having FUN.

Would I like some trees to zoom past? Heck yes. But who knows...maybe thats coming.

By the same logic if they were expanding to add a ride he would have said that, but he didn't.

I'm simply going by a few things:
- The opening team for both creature attractions was told to read the book.
- Both creature attractions characters come from the book.
- Phase 3 is blue sky at this point. Depends on many things such as how phase 2 does, how many other IPs they pull in, do they feel it would be potter overload, ect. So that would be far from the point of publicly saying it was happening
- LC is not going anywhere. I know there is another thread where I went though the list of reasons. The short version, they are dumping millions into everything except for the games at this point and it being replaced is only out there as wishful thinking (no insider is confirming it's even being considered)
- JP side is packed, no room there.
- Doesn't really fit the London side of things.

So your going off the assumption that up until the WB guy said something Universal had no idea and continued to pour money into long term maintenance and upgrades for the area?

No, I'm going off the assumption that your overblowing the "pouring" money into long term maintenance.

EDIT: All I'm saying is that it wouldn't be the first time a company put money into an attraction they closed a few years later

Well, it's like I said before...my reasons for going to and enjoying Universal and Disney go beyond "just having fun" (don't mean any offense to you though).

I, for one, think they should take a second go at a "Triceratops Encounter" style attraction. Ooo, or something a la the How to Train Your Dragon arena show!

With five movies Fantastic Beasts will offer many ideas for theme park attractions. The challenge is the changing settings. The Harry Potter books all had major settings in common with Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. FB on the other hand will move around the world.

Rowling has expanded the Wizarding World with articles about wizarding communities around the world and the major schools on each continent. The merchandising possibilities are enormous. Imagine dozens of houses to choose from instead of only four.

With the battle between Dumbledore and Grindelwald Rowling has given the movies the big connecting plot that the books had in Voldemort. Voldemort graduated the year Grindelwald was defeated, likely learning from the event in the process.

So many questions to be answered. Does Universal already have access to FB or is a new contract needed? Do they want to add FB or do more Potter? Would FB be an attraction or a full land? Would it go in the current parks or wait for the south property?

I believe it was already reported that Universal has FB rights, unless my memory is remiss.

I don't think those included theme park attraction rights. This was more about the broadcast rights to the movies and movie related events in the parks.

The seven-year deal, which begins in July 2018, will make all eight “Harry Potter” films and the forthcoming “Fantastic Beasts” movies available on NBC’s portfolio of cable networks, which include USA and Syfy, according to a company statement Monday. It also lets NBC’s theme parks host fan events, movie screenings and promotional activities tied to both franchises.

But it puts them on a good track towards those other rights
