This coaster has had good news?

I'm ranking this coaster up with the world's biggest facepalm.

It has a long way to go to become world's biggest... I'd say roughly still a year and a half and a wall to crash through before it gets *that* title.

The picture is still appropriate though :look:

Did you see the new Syd Vinyl video? That would only make the ride that much more epic. But, chance for more disaster, so thus, more facepalm.

I'm really not interested in Syd Vinal. I think the whole thing is just a waste of time. It has nothing to do with the ride, and it's just solid proof that the marketing people are completely out of touch with the product. Rockit *has* a whole set of character created for the ride, and not only is Syd Vinal NOT one of them, but he's not even done in the same style as the rest. This is why PR people should know what it is they are supposed to be marketing *before* they start marketing it!

Totally irrelevant, but my friend thought facepalm was "palm head", I think that is the world's biggest facepalm.

Yeah, mixing up a couple of words is a WAY bigger wtf than still not having any clue what's going on with your new, already heavily marketed major attraction. :look:

Universal, B&M called. I tried to make out what they were saying through the laughter but "Told Yah So." was the most audible thing.

If Universal had waited for B&M, we wouldn't be getting a new coaster, period. B&M couldn't build a new coaster for Universal until what, 2011? This was before the economy collapsed. Had Universal waited until now-ish to make a deal for 2011, we wouldn't be getting a new coaster. It's that simple.

2011 is correct, but the assumption that the crash in economy would have canceled it is not. That's just not how it works with B&M. You pay for the ride. Had they wanted it for 2011, a significant porition of the capital would have already been signed to B&M to reserve the ride for 2011.

Besides, at this point what are the odds of Rockit opening before 2011 anyway? :P

What does that even mean? Universal *wanted* B&M. It's not like B&M begged them to reconsider going with Maurer. They weren't available.

It was a joke. I KNOW that B&M has a 3-5 year waiting list. I personally think they should have gotten a Vekoma or Intamin. It was nothing more than an attempt at humor.

PS: When I edited I cut something out. MAJOR FAIL on my part.

Yeah - they could have gotten an Intamin. It still would have opened late, once it did open it would be down more than it was up *and* it would kill someone.

I'm thrilled they went with Maurer Sohne. I'm guessing I'm one of the only people on this board that has been on any Maurer coasters since they're not really common in the US. Their rides have a very fresh, unique feel to them. After a while, every B&M ride tends to feel like the same thing. Intamins are getting to that point as well. Maurer is a newer player with a different philosophy.

I'm just as disappointed as anyone that Rockit isn't open yet- but unlike the rest of online, my disappointment isn't a selfish "but I want to ride it" thing. I'm disappointed because I'd hoped all along that Rockit could be Maurer's true break-through ride that gets them recognized as a major contender in the coaster wars. I'd LOVE to see more Maurer rides in the US. I really fear how Rockit's reputation will affect that possibility.

Ok, well I can definitely say that the reason Universal went with Maruer was because of their compact designs and that they were available.

NO MORE VEKOMA COASTERS. Have you ever been on a Vekoma coaster (other than Everest) that is smooth?

Gerstlauer?

Doubt they were doing anything. Maurer is a bigger name, believe it or not. Gerstlauer also did the Spongebob coaster at Mall of America. They can build compact, but they don't build very big. Then again, neither did Maurer before this. I love Mystery Mine (Thunderhead is better IMO), but I would've picked Maurer over Gerstlauer. Maurer has much better trains and only uses a lap bar on their X Trains. Plus I doubt Gerstlauer would've done the "pick your own song" or the whole concept of filming on a coaster.

EDIT: Gerstlauer also built Son of Beast at Kings Island. If anyone has ever been on that coaster, you'd know why they shouldn't be in the wooden coaster business.

Um. :bang:

Gerstlauer, *nor* Maurer, had anything to do with the concept of picking a song of filming on ride. Universal handled the technology behind it. Maurer simply provided a spot in their lap back to stick it.

Beyond the fact that filming on a coaster IS NOT NEW. For crying out loud, I don't know how many times that needs to be pointed out. The Flying freakin' Unicorn clone at Cedar Point HAS ON BOARD FILMING. Yikes.

Gerstlauer did not build Son of Beast.

Come on guys. I'm sitting here at my desk with a friend who *just finished* a rant about how BAD this topic has gotten on IOA Cetral, with all the fan boys *acting like* and *trying to convince themselves* that they know what they're talking about, when they haven't a clue. I seriously have a lot more respect for this board, but in the frustration the delays of this coaster is bringing, this thread is getting dangerously close to that other site in quality.

Let's keep it to an OU level. PLEASE!

Well if three of the four trains had LEDs and one did not that must mean we are 3/4 of the way toward opening!!!!

Or maybe it's a hint! Maybe it's opening at 3pm on August 4! OMGZ THAT'S TOMORROW!@?@!#?!@#?@#

Q: Who am I?

(A: IOA Central)
