This frequent fear pass ticket option is on the way:

I haven't been to Haunted Hayride in maybe 10 years, but we do live somewhat close to it. Would the season pass be a good value? I don't remember how the parking situation is, which could be the deal breaker (as it is with me for Dark Harbor)

Can we be honest that this event is mid every year?

Unfortunately, hard agree.

It was a must see for us when we made our West Coast haunt tour itinerary two years ago, and we were vastly disappointed. The concept for the midway provides so much to work with, but it felt like they just sort of lost all momentum after that.

Seeing video of what this event used to be (Trick or Treat was such a killer concept for a haunt, actually ringing doorbells on various houses; even the hayride itself) I think we were setting ourselves up by hoping we'd see shadows of what once was, but it just didn't translate. Even the "new" haunt was simply a lazy retheme of the facade and opening scene of the previous haunt, followed by us walking around entirely unthemed semi-trailers (presumably the same they trucked in the scenery on), with no sound, lightings, or actors for massive stretches. I genuinely am not a negative person, and there were certainly highlights at points, but it was a hard pill to swallow sadly.

The best result of the night was we were so disappointed we sought out another haunt for the night, and that's how we found Zombie Joe's Underground Theater (which, if you've never done, HIGHLY recommend)

It was always fine at best, but ever since they switched locations, it hasn’t been the same since.

I thought the old location was really impressive for the price. They were able to utilize the old zoo enclosures in really inventive ways, with some pretty startling set pieces. The new route is tedious, repetitive, and underwhelming. The other houses are hit or miss, and with how most tickets only allow one visit per experience, if you get a bum run, you're out of luck. Not enough reason to hang around once you've done what's there.

Despite all your warnings, I did get a Season Pass for Hayride this year. I haven't gone in many, many years. It's also not too far away from me, so visiting more than once isn't much of a hassle for me. I am a fan of Janelle Monae, the new Seance experience seems like it could be fun, and if nothing else, I'm all for riding the skeleton carousel. And at Midsummer (where I heard all the new offerings for 2024), the mention Trick or Treat is bringing back the doorbells--something I never got to experience the first time around.

Don't get me wrong, I will be going in with very, very low expectations. It'll also give us something to do when we're blocked from FFP at HHN. Although I will already concede the fact they haven't even updated their own website with the 2024 attractions info with just over a month to opening does not bode well.

Don't get me wrong either, I REALLY want the experience to be good! It feels like this year they are truly expanding a bunch of offerings in a tangible way, and some, uh, interesting partnerships, haha, so I am cautiously optimistic, but not going to lie that I've not been burnt in the past! Hoping to hear your thoughts and hope that it is a great event this year!

My grumpy a$$ will be back at LAHH for the first time since 2015 (almost 10 years!). Let's hope it's a better scareactor experience :eyes:

As for the audition... holy hell. It made auditioning for HHN Hollywood feel easy! Here's how it went on Friday:

They had us in a group of 4. We had to act like a monster, attack/kill each other, act like a zombie, attack-get back type scares repeatedly (each time had to be a different monster), we each took turns dying, we also took turns killing each other (with an invisible weapon of our choice)- so we had to "die" 3 different ways.

I did the audition time slot around 11am... and it was already 80+ degrees. My brain was NOT having it with trying to think of different monsters lol.. at least with HHN & KSF I could phone it in with my default feral vampire routine to make the cut. During this audition, one time I went to scare, my brain blanked & I "meowed" like a cat :lol:o_O

So yea, once I find out more, I'll pass it along. See you in the fog :pumpkin:

Welcome to Hell LA Haunted Hayride, where even with a budget boost, it's still a disorganized disaster. This event opens on Friday & they still have A LOT to do! I'm having 2015 flashbacks. 9 years later, they still don't have their :poop: together. *sigh*

The iconic jack-o-lantern tower/sign still isn't up yet. Rehearsals/fittings are tomorrow (houses)/Wednesday (hayride). Dress Rehearsal on Thursday (everyone).

Not much to get photos of (yet), but the entrance portal was up! So here's that:

I'll get an update by Thursday. Expect the worst, hope for the best!

Any updates on this? I'm considering going into the mess on opening night, but only if there's maybe a hope Janae Monell may actually be there...?

I'm so excited by the Janelle Monte haunt, that's such a fun concept. Celebrities are the next frontier of IP for Halloween events. Could totally see Heidi Klum or Neil Patrick Harris team up with production companies to bring halloween attractions to life.

NPH sort of already teamed up with John Braver for Delusion. I'm not sure if he still does, but I think NHP helped produce the event at some point. But he didn't put his own name in or on it.

Just returned from Hayride. And while it isn't a top tier event, I didn't think it was bad. There were a few minor opening night hiccups (some confusions with waivers, catching some scareactors off guard), but overall I had a good time.

I think Monae Mansion is the stand out for me. There's a lot of her in there (though not as much in the end). And the maze is decent length, and has a good amount of actors. Hellbilly Halloween was also pretty decent, and good length. Hayride was fine... the new bench seating is much nicer (though there are still halebays for overflow seating, so it's not a guarantee). Lots of dead stretches in between scenes, but enjoyable for what it is. I did want Trick or Treat to be more... I was hoping for more interaction, and it also felt the shortest. Maybe more will happen as the event progresses, but as it stands now, it seemed to be the weak link to me.

Saw the new Madame Aurora's Seance. There's some good bones here, and fun effects. It goes on a bit long, but the biggest problem to me is it seems to build to a big pay off, but that pay off never really arrives, leaving the ending muddled. It doesn't really end as much as it just stops. In fact, nearly our entire group was unsure if the show was actually finished or not, especially when no employee even directed us to an exit when it seemed to be done. Not a great sign. But even with those flaws, I think there's enough here to warrant a visit to it. It sort of felt like an expanded version of one of those Skeleton Key rooms that Knott's tried many years ago.

The good: the live band rocks... I forgot how nice it is to have live music at an event--something other haunt events could learn from. Lines weren't too bad (however, note we went right at opening and were leaving by 9), and I do like how they pulse in groups, so there are no conga lines here. And most mazes had a decent amount of scareactors, some of whom really interact with you, which is fun. There is also a good food truck selection, and it was nice to ride the skeleton horse carousel.

The bad/so-so: not that many scareactors in the opening zone. Lots of uneven ground make it tough to walk around, even in the houses themselves. Axe throwing and alleged mini-escape rooms (which we didn't even see--not sure if it was ready yet, or we just missed it) are a $5 upcharge (which isn't all that much, actually). Parking is a bit of a pain, but that's always been the case. And while it's commendable they have 4 mazes (including the hayride itself) of mostly decent length, plus a show, it still doesn't quite feel like a full night. Though I supposed if you stayed for food and drinks, that may help. But still feels maybe $5-10 overpriced.

I do have a season pass, so I'll be visiting again... I'll be interested to see if things change and/or improves as the event progresses.

Sorry for double post, but a few weeks have gone by... we did another visit, as we have the Season Pass. We figure not many people got a Season Pass, because about 1/3 of the employees there keep having questions about it.

But that said, there have been some minor improvements. More signage, and more effects now working in the mazes and the Seance show. I like the Seance show a lot (noticed two new effects that didn't happen for us last time), but still argue it really needs one more "big" effect at the climax... you keep anticipating something big to happen at the end, and it never quite does. There's a more graceful ending that clears up some confusion the first time we went. Tip: they ask if anyone wants to volunteer to sit at the main table for the seance, while the rest sit in the bleachers. I will stay spoiler-free, but I will say that sitting at the main table is essentially just a front row seat. You will not be asked to do or say anything, and you get to first hand experience a small effect at the beginning.

While I'm not a fan of the feeling of nickel and diming with all the upcharge stuff (axe throwing, bar, mini-escape room, zombie paintball), I still don't think it's that bad for the money. The mazes are long and pretty well populated with scareactors. And sometimes, if you catch them in a low moment, the seance and scary-go-round may let you ride for free--just be nice, and don't be a jerk if they say no. They seem to be more open to free visits earlier in the evening while crowds are low, but there's certainly no guarantee--and of course, it may decrease as crowds grow larger as we approach Halloween proper.

I also noticed a booth with mocktails, which is nice for the non-drinkers. And there's plenty of food trucks, so you can definitely eat while there.

Sorry for my lack of updates, thoughts & content. Working haunt season is exhausting.

For anyone looking to get their fix on a non-HHN, Knotts or Six Flags event night, LAHH is running every night until Nov 2nd

Mon: Oct 21st & 28th
Tues: Oct 22nd & 29th
7pm-10:30pm

I'm heading in now on 4.5hrs of sleep. Yay!

That is honestly the only reason I would check out the LAHH. There aren't any other haunts going those Monday or Tuesday nights, so why the heck not?

As I'm sitting here waiting for my next attack... Definitely let me know which days you plan to attend. They plan to only give us 6 days each week because they don't want to pay overtime

It's so dumb. They'd rather be understaffed & give a bad show than schedule us the full run

Current Sunday Night LIVE Update:

My one castmate doesn't work Sundays. So already knew she wouldn't be here.

My other castmate, he called out.

So it's literally ONLY me tonight for my Hayride scene. It's early night anyway, so we close at 10:30pm. I'll be skipping my 30min break to get that meal penalty extra pay as compensation. There's nobody else to help with the scene due to poor staffing.
