From Gadling:
One classic part of the Disney theme park experience - the afternoon parade - will be missing from Disney's California Adventure for most of next year.

The Pixar Play Parade can be seen at the park through Jan. 3, but then it's not expected back until November. The hiatus is a result of a major overhaul of Disney's second California theme park.

The Orange County Register reports that Disney will have roaming street shows, called Pixar Pop-Ups, in the parade's place. The mini-shows will feature characters from popular Pixar movies such as The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc.

The overhaul at Disney's California Adventure is expected to be complete in 2012. Disney is spending $1 billion on the project to makeover the theme park. For most of next year, the major projects will be worked on.

What does that mean for visitors? Lots of construction walls, and temporary closings of corridors, eateries, shops and other venues at the park. While Disney regularly closes rides and venues for refurbishment, these kinds of major interruptions are always a risky business, because many potential visitors may decide to delay a trip to Anaheim until they can see the finished project.

it was gonna happen, though it's not necessarily the end of parades totally, just briefly and in between they will do smaller scale street shows with the floats and characters they can get out. this day they use the toy story guys, next day the finding nemo guys... and so on while they finish work around the corridor. They did get the lighting installed in Hollywood I hear do they can alter the parade route for the newer stuff as soon as they are ready.

Actually think they are trying to cut the parades and this is an excuse to try to hold crowds with a cheaper format. They have had major construction in 2010 and no problem with continuing parades..car land is isolated and after fall 2011 that is the last major part of this project.

Pixar Play Parade returning June 15

From Disney Parks Blog

After taking a break for the past year to accommodate the Disney California Adventure park expansion, all your favorite Pixar pals are getting ready to bring the party back to the streets with the return of the Pixar Play Parade.

The Pixar Play Parade brings to life the worlds of some of the most popular Disney●Pixar films, from “Toy Story” and “Cars” to “Finding Nemo” and “Monsters, Inc.” Along the way, the infectious soundtrack and energetic spirit of the performers get everyone into the fun of the show.

And when the Pixar Play Parade starts rolling again on June 15, fans of the procession will notice a few updates. “The biggest change that fans will see is that we reconfigured the Omnidroid float in ‘The Incredibles’ unit,” says Show Director Robin Trowbridge. “Jack Jack is now repositioned, and we are introducing Violet to the parade for the first time. It’s really cool!”

More people than ever will be able to “join in the party,” too, as the parade is presented up to twice daily along the new, longer Disney California Adventure park parade route, winding from the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in Hollywood Pictures Backlot all the way to Silly Symphony Swings on Paradise Pier.

To prepare for the return of the Pixar Play Parade, “Pixar Pals! Monster Mayhem” and “Pixar Pals! The Incredibles: Heroes in Training” will come to a close April 29. “Our Pixar Pals have done a great job keeping guests entertained during the construction effort in the park,” said Robin. “Now, we’re excited to bring back the full parade, better than ever!”

Here’s a look at what went into the creation of the Pixar Play Parade, back when it was first introduced in 2008.

Al Lutz mentioned this on his last update and it sounds great. Between this, Minnie's Fly Girls, Newsies, and Phineas and Ferb, there's going to be plenty of entertainment around new DCA.
