The movie is objectively pretty awful. It's only saving grace is that it can be pretty funny at times, whether intentionally or not. But it is such a blast in a theater, especially with friends. I was losing it when there was 15 seconds of applause for "CHICKEN JOCKEY." Normally I hate a loud crowd like that but this time, it gets an exception.

Saw this last night, went into it hoping it was going to be so bad it’s good, and be funny. unfortunately, it wasn’t either.

I did not know about this whole repeating lines and clapping stuff beforehand m so I was throughly confused during the movie when it kept happening lol.

Not what i truthfully expected. Hope WB doesn’t take the wrong lessons from this success, especially considering they have no competition from here to Thunderbolts.

Oh they will. I’m sure Zaslov is beside himself he had that Batman Beyond animated movie scrapped for this. Sigh.

What lessons are there to learn from this, though? That a huge, multi-generational IP with a very engaged fan base was a good target for a film adaptation? A movie making this kind of money in the first weekend isn't going to tell you much about how people are responding to the "quality" of the film (subjective, yada yada yada) -- it's only telling you what you should already know: Minecraft is a huge cash cow, just like Mario and Five Nights before it.

plot wise how is this any different than Mario Bros movie or the angry birds movie or the Jumanji sequels?
it feels the same, I watched it and it felt the same as Mario Bros .... even had some of the exact same plot points at a few times.
felt almost exactly the same as the Mario movie, the story might be different but the structure and pacing felt the same.

it also reminded me of ready player one, just feels the same. same ending and everything.
i don't get why those get a pass or this gets any more hate.

The movie was great sure the plot might not be the best but it makes up for it because of its fun aspects and at times it was even funny. The audience however made the experience 10 times better since we would all just clap really loudly when Jack Black said iconic quotes lol.

Minecraft movie spawns ‘annoying’ cinema trend that viewers claim ‘ruins’ the film

A glut of video clips and personal testimonials have ignited a fierce debate over cinema etiquette

Call it a hot take, but:

1) Not everything is for everyone. Minecraft is massive and geared towards a younger audience and that crowd is unexpectedly eating this up. I don't think anyone is expecting this to hit hard with the older generations by any means.

2) Cinema is boring without the existence of some silly movies that are "bad". Not everything should be a Scorsese film. I love a good garbage flick.

I won't be watching this, but nothing wrong with it existing and leading to a good time (just respect the movie theater employees pls).

I love this trend tbh like I said before it makes the experience more fun in my opinion . I will admit when I was watching the movie I was confused about what was going on with the audience at first but then I quickly learned to just play along.

Y'all are making me feel old. I'll let the youth have this one but please shut up and put down your phones for the movies that aren't WWE wrestling matches between memes and catchphrases.

EDIT: This is not a joke.

This is the point at which "the kids" have finally left me behind. It's great. I feel free. Dunno what Skibidi is and I don't have to know. I'll just keep listening to my early Gen Z music and vibe.

I do remember videos of people screaming during the last two avengers movies. it depends on the movie, lol.
I don't know who started the screaming thing for minecraft and I don't know why it caught on. I'm curious on how it started, someone famous on tiktok ?
