Kind of weird but I guess they wanted you to be able to still put the game into a regular Switch if you wanted to. This will really only affect Prime 4 for me and it’s probably advantageous to just by the package in my case.

Interesting. Also someone has said that the switch games are actually going to be emulated on switch 2… so that’s interesting as well.

I just got a nice 48” 4K OLED TV for my room in preparation of this console. Metroid Prime Remastered looks great on it. Hopefully the whole tariff situation is figured out so they can open preorders.

If Donkey Kong is being made by someone new and we still get a new 3D Mario from the Odyssey team that would be nuts.

I'm still nearly certain it's the Odyssey team. Some of their trademark design influence can be seen in this game, both in UI and gameplay.

Only thing I wonder if it could be a counter: maybe it's being done by the Zelda 3D teams? Considering the scale and the scope of the game; I could see how that might be done by a team more established in open world games in the much more "traditional" sense like how BoTW/Tears was.

I'm not a fan of Nintendo hiding which third party collaborators worked on their games, but within Nintendo itself, there's so much cross-pollination between teams that ascribing a particular UI or game style to any one division of the company is a fruitless endeavor. There's certainly a shared style guide.

I’m thinking so too but if that’s the case why hide it? The only reason I could think of could be because the team expanded enough that this isn’t their only game and they didn’t want to reveal the next Mario yet. They also didn’t want people to run with the idea that because of Donkey Kong we’re not getting Mario for YEARS.

Nintendo should’ve been more clear about this sooner. Game Key Cards are actually a massive improvement over the current physical Switch 1 games that require a download code.

You can borrow, resell, and use Nintendo’s game-key cards on any Switch 2 console

An internet connection is only needed once.

A better version of an already bad thing is still a bad thing. Unfortunately there’s people who can’t download stuff… thankfully it looks like it’s going to be mostly 3rd party games that use this feature

It was always only third party games but now Nintendo developed a way to make them shareable. The last thing Nintendo wants to do is go back to trying to force third parties to do things, that’s what drove them to the PlayStation all those years ago. They can’t force them to buy cards big enough to make a full physical version but they also wanted to make an improvement to how things were done on the OG Switch.

Personally I don’t think I’ll buy any of these. If there’s any game like this that I want I might just download it off the eShop.

The virtual key cards are a much better option for families or roommates that share physical games together, at least for games that would only be made available digitally otherwise. While I personally have no interest in them, they're much better than the codes in boxes, which were literally pointless.

So now we have a different rep saying that physical Switch 2 Editions WON’T be Switch 1 cards with a download code but rather the full thing on a Switch 2 cartridge.
www.resetera.com

Switch 2 Editions of physical games are Switch 1 carts with an upgrade code per Nintendo UK (Metroid, Mario Party, Kirby, BOTW, TOTK)

But we literally have a publisher confirming the pack in on the cart.
www.resetera.com www.resetera.com
I really wish Nintendo would be more transparent on this.

I don’t think we get the switch 2 in America till after launch.

Nintendo is Apple but worse, their products are sometimes worth their steep price!

The launch isn’t moving they’ve already confirmed as much. They’ve even confirmed that there’s stock already here. The only thing they’ve delayed is preorders.

MoistCritikal is absolutely going off about the Switch 2 prices on his YouTube. This is his second or third video ranting about the prices, each time getting 2+ million views.

I usually enjoy listening to his videos in the background, but honestly I think he’s kind of dragging this. I don’t really understand his frustration. The console itself is priced reasonably, and the games are for the most part priced the same as Sony and Microsoft. $70 for the big AAA first party games, less for smaller games.

Pretty much the only difference is that Nintendo is charging an extra 10 for the biggest once in a generation games that will probably continue to sell for 7+ years and won’t get sequels in this generation like Mario Kart. Which I mean, it’s kind of annoying, but I don’t think it warrants this nuclear storm of controversy.

I disagree about the games. Nintendo sets a bad precedent. The consistency amongst Switch games was the $60 price tag. They excuse their price bump with “variable pricing” according to quality, suggesting MK World and DK Bananza are worth the new costs (at $80/$70 respectively). Okay, but does that mean when Metroid Prime 2+3 Remastered retails for $40 like MP1 Remastered was, the game is suggested dog crap because of the $40 price tag?

Variable pricing should account for the “variable consumer” as well if that’s the case.

I have no issues with the console going for $450. I think the $500 MK World Bundle is an excellent deal! Nintendo setting a new standard with variable pricing largely concerns me.

I actually think Nintendos trying to do everything in their power to get the console released in the US on the 5th. With vietnams tariffs lowered, and Nintendo delaying release in specific countries already; I think Nintendos gonna try to get as many consoles as they can imported to the US before the tariffs go over again.
