I remember seeing a while back about a patent that Universal filed for just recently. It was really interesting. I've looked for it, but I can't find it. I'll see if I can explain it.
It was for a special piece of track that could be placed on a moving platform. So let's say you're on a roller coaster track, traveling through some show scenes like the first half of Mummy. Then, your vehicle rode onto a piece of track that was attached to a platform on a bus bar. Your vehicle locks onto that track, and the platform starts moving along it's own busbar section. The platform has hydraulics under it, so you can bounce around similar to Spiderman, all the while your vehicle is still locked on a piece of coaster track. You could pass through screens, other show scenes, anything really. Then the platform stops and the track you're on aligns with another piece of coaster track, and your vehicle unlocks and rolls onto the other track, possible onto a high speed roller coaster portion.
Hope that made sense!
