I technically did too...granted it was through a 3rd party hotel in the DTD Resort area, but hey. Still counts.

Oh cool! Mine was at Contemporary.

The cups..... my thought is that if they put those on a shelf and tried to sell them for $5.50, nobody would buy them. $4.49 for the beverage only is the way to go.

Honestly though, if you put clear cups that simply spelled "butterbeer" on them on shelves I wouldn't buy them either.

You actually can buy just the cups for $6 which means either the drink or the cup is 50 cents more

During a live chat on the Disney Parks Blog, Disney released a new video that unveils some details of Be Our Guest restaurant's two other dining rooms, as well as some new pictures.

I have to say, this thing is a true piece of art aesthetically. LM's area just made me smile. It's a shame that I really won't have much of a reason to visit. I'll certainly visit, but something tells me it won't be until 2014.

It's all about story... until you actually build it, then all concepts of creating like the movie, logical spacial design, and interior design get thrown out the window.

The restaurant is stunning. Be Our Guest is similar to the restaurant I expected The Great Hall to be made into. May the idea rest in piece.

After visiting the area on Sunday with a friend, I found everything in the area to be great (Note I'm 18, way off what has been noted as the target demographic). Belle is really going to be a hit with families and I even found some of the guest interactions humorous. Also they ask if anyone that doesn't have a part wants one so there will be no crying kids who didn't get to dance with Belle. I really liked the goblet that came with the brew and I honestly can't pick the brew or butterbeer over one another since it's comparing frozen fruit drink to frozen cream soda. It's like asking if I want an apple pie or chocolate cake, really depends on my mood, however I find both drinks very good. Be Our Guest looks stunning and is well worth going into just to look around and I hope the food lives up to the quality. And I'll put it here, the alcohol is for dinner sit-down service only. There will be no drunks on the streets of Magic Kingdom I can assure you. And if there are, Disney made an unnatural amount of money from those people the price they are charging for drinks. Heading to Little Mermaid, the ride is great. There is only one part that disappointed me and I think it's been well discussed here. The second time I went on it wasn't as bad because I knew what was coming and wasn't expecting more then what was there. The beginning is fantastic however and really is worth the wait, which could be considered an attraction in itself I may add. Finally Ariel's grotto is really well done and probably the most unexpected surprise in new fantasyland for me. I never would have thought that a Disney character would have been able to have so much disney magic about them and make it worthwhile for two 18 year-olds to stand in line for a meet and greet.

Sorry, I was with friends the other day and they were still up and arms about it so I didn't know it had calmed here.

Great review. I haven't experienced Belle's whatever or The Little Mermaid ride yet! I like how you worded comparisons between the two drinks. I agree that, while it's all down to personal preference, neither are particularly bad. Glad you had a good time :)

I compared both Butterbeer and Gaston mugs tonight and they both hold the exact same amount. Myth busted.

I will say about the LeFou's Brew, the best route to go with it is to stir it beforehand. Otherwise the extra flavoring from the topping is doing nothing but sitting on top. The taste changes considerably if mixed together.

Was quantity of the two drinks ever actually a question? :sneaky:

I've also read elsewhere that stirring is definitely the way to go because of the marshmallow syrup, which apparently is separate from the frozen apple juice when dispensed into a cup. If you don't stir it you can apparently sip up just that syrup through the straw, which by itself is supposedly not quite pleasant.

Made if over to soft opening last night. First, for all the fanbois who insisted this was NOT a "Potter Swatter"--they doth protest too much. In person, the "feel" of the new land is exactly like WWoHP, albeit without the soul. The restaurant was closed, but standing at the bottom of fake rockwork behind gates, looking up at a forced perspective castle--the only sense I get is "this is just like Potter."

On to what was open...

Gastons. Fountain is cute, interior feels like a less detailed rip-off of Hogs head, down to the large round table in the corner. The dark, rustic look and feel is far more Potter than B&tB. I didn't see any cute little easter eggs from the movie. The "Disney details" that made attractions from Pirates to the Adventurers Club so awesome is missing--these feels like a Chuck E. Cheese version of the Hogs Head.

I kind of like the base of LaFou's Brew. The apple slush has some caramel notes that help it, although it is very sweet. But the mango foam does not compliment it at all. And they escallop it on top, like Duchess Potatoes, completely destroying the illusion that it's a naturally rising foamy head on the beverage. In other words, it's clearly not done for show--to create the illusion that this is actually a beer-like liquid--but because Butter Beer has foam on top of slushee and, hey, that sells.

Mixed emotions on the gift shop. Glad to see a return of stores that aren't entirely plush (although there is a corner). But nothing in it says "B&tB". Sure it feels like medieval Europe, but the Europe of Medieval Times or, you guessed it, Hogwarts, not Fantasyland. It feels like a shop out of Harambe Village plopped down at the exit to the Jungle Cruise, just incongruous. The new Main Street magic shop and Spongebob Storepants, to name two, do a much better job of integrating a gift shop to characters.

Exterior of Mermaid is awesome. Not getting the love for the queue tho. Sure, like Pirates, it's long and detailed--but the details are all highly realistic. That doesn't match the ride to come. Again, incongruous, perhaps the best word to describe FLE (or second best behind "rip-off"). All of Ariel's treasures look real--that doesn't jive with the candy-colored plastic version of her world we're about to visit.

There are two ways to do dark rides. Hyper-realistic--Pirates, Carousel of Progress, Countdown to Extinction--or hyper-stylized--Small World, Cat in the Hat, Splash Mountain. Mermaid is neither. Most of the decor just looks like cheap plastic, there's no thematic consistency. The first two Ariels look creepily like sex dolls. The Ursula sequence works very well, and "Kiss the Girl" is alright, but it would have been 100 times better with real water effects ala Splash Mountain. And by slowing the ride down to extend ride time, you just have more opportunity to realize how limited the movement of the animatronics are. Overall, not that much of an improvement over the 40-year-old Snow White ride they just demolished. In terms of atmosphere, Snow probably gets the edge.

Final verdict: overhyped, and tainted by bean counters who are clearly obsessed with The Boy Who Lives Up The Road but incapable of understanding why that land is such a hit. Every attraction/restaurant/shop ultimately comes down to story. You just need to know the story you're trying to tell.
