These are irrelevant points though because this expansion is still geared towards children, and not families.

Wait, what? Maybe you mean they are not geard towards families with older children?

Either is most of Disney World. We've been over this several times.

The Magic Kingdom skewers towards younger children in general. Wether you are OK with this, or you want to spout that ancient Disney line " when you aim just at kids.." is up to you. The facts are the facts. Older teens will want to go on the new Potter ride over the new Little Mermaid ride. I think everyone gets that.

That doesn't mean there isn't a giant demogrpahic out there that will eat this up...to bring back the orignial point...it's not a "NARROW" demographic by any means. And there will be plenty of people without children who will still love these additions..maybe because Disney makes Adults FEEL like kids too?

I just think most of you are so cynical, you are blinded by what the reality is.

While I may be cynical at times, I'm not blinded by reality and in fact, I embrace it. The FLE looks great and I'm glad that Disney is adding onto their parks, but the reality is the expansion is very girl orientated. At one time there was going to be a Pixie Hollow meet and greet where the mine train ride is being built. If that doesn't prove the demographic Disney was aiming at in this expansion, then nothing will change your mind. I'll go on the Little Mermaid ride once to just see the details of the que, but it won't be a regular favorite like Splash or BTMR, which appeal to just about everyone. I'm hoping that the mine train ride turns out great and becomes a classic like Splash, but I just can't see myself spending much time at the rest of FLE. At 45 years of age with two 15 year old teen boys, Disney wasn't trying to appeal to me and really could care less about what my family was interested in.

In the end, it will be very popular with the guests and because it's WDW and there's a certain fan base that will accept just about anything they put out.

Actually Pixie Hollow was going to be where storybook circus is now. I am all about the experience, and I believe the FLE has some amazing visuals and design. It also fixed the plaguing issue of over crowding in FL.

The expansion is something new that will hopefully alleviate some of the insane crowds and lines that MK has been suffering with the last few years. I do wish there were more attractions going in as well, I mean in DL they literally have a ride every 5 feet in their FL, here its more spread out of course, but a lot less attractions which is why the lines are so bad sometimes.

Either way its somehting new, I will definitely be eating in BOG because I do love the Disney restaurants, they are all done VERY well thankfully, and I'll be anxiously waiting the 7DMTC next year.

These aimed at 4-year-olds or aimed at girls only arguments are getting pretty tired. Disney films are for everyone and the need to separate programming and attractions for girls and boys seems like it came to be pretty recently. Last I checked, the old Fantasylands were made up of attractions featuring Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Alice, etc. Just because these attractions featuring Disney Princesses are 20 years late in the making, doesn't mean they're not for everyone. The kids watching Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast in theaters in 1989 and 1991 was ME. And the adults re-buying these movies on blu-ray today and visiting these attractions and sharing it with new kids in our life is me now too.

I am not going to tell you that you're opinions are wrong, even though I disagree with some of them, but I believe you had this written in your head weeks ago. Among others on this board who have been ripping apart this expansion with each new headline/update.

It's great that you say it could have been "100 times better"..but really, what would you have done differently, besides tear down the entire project and make a Disney Villains coaster?

Did you read my whole post? I specifically mention in that sentence one thing I would have done differently--used real water effects (waterfalls, jumping fountains) rather than video screens and plastic. I also alluded to other changes--making the ride faster to make the static figures less glaring, using more stylized decor in the queue and in the scenes--that hardly entail "tearin[ing] down the entire project."

I'm a huge Little Mermaid mark, I'm a huge dark ride mark. I WANT a LM ride, but I want it to be good, too. I'm not willing to forgive Stitch's Great Escape just because I love the character, I'm not about to do the same for FLE, either.

Another example on TLM queue. Imagine walking onto the Winnie the Pooh ride through the "Flight of the Hippogriff" queue rather than the 100-Acre Wood queue. Both are unique and imaginative in their own way, but both also ultimately fit the ride they lead to. Little Mermaid takes you through the Forbidden Forest just to drop you in Pooh's house.

rhino4evr said:
I don't think there need to be "rules" on dark rides like you are spouting, but I guess I see your point. I just don't really care that much about those details?

Not a rule so much as a guideline, or a things that have worked in the past. And if you don't see the importance of details to Disney attractions over the years, I'm just at a loss. Can someone repost the $10,000 spire story? Detail is what makes Disney "Disney."

rhino4evr said:
Still think they should have added some sort of unique root beer float instead of apple juice. or of course, actual beer. How cool would it be if Gaston's was actually a microbrewery?

I agree either would be cool, but the apple drink (sans foam) actually worked in context for me. A caramel apple cider slushee is still not that far from cider, which would fit the era. My only problem is with the foam, which is both gastronomically and thematically unnecessary.

shiekra38 said:
This doesn't make me feel good to say, but keep in mind Universal at one time borrowed from Disney.

I think every modern theme park in America borrowed heavily from Disney, at least in terms of conceptual ideas.

shiekra38 said:
...but Potter was successful why would you not want to borrow from something that was successful.

Because the elements they borrowed don't fit the Katzenburg-era princesses' stories. B&tB isn't The Black Cauldron. As built, Gaston's pub has nothing to do with B&tB--it doesn't look like it came right out of the provincial village in the "Good Day" scene. The current queue has little to do with TLM movie or ride--it's too busy trying to ape Hogwarts. Again, WDW replicated the sets/props from WWoHP, but didn't manage to capture any of the original's soul.

For the record I haven't been, but people who have tell me Cars Land got it right. You feel like you walked into the Radiator Springs of the movie. That is not the case here. So this isn't a Universal v. Disney post, this is a TDO v. skills in running a theme park post.

I meant families in general. I don't want to get into this debate again, but Disney World is excessively appealing more to children rather than families as a whole.

And yes, of course, Disney makes adults feel like kids. That's why Disney is so "magical" in many regards. Heck, that's why I enjoy the parks so much!

As I said earlier, this (FLE) isn't aimed at me. I'll do everything at least once. It's pretty. It will be very popular with the 2 primary demographics it is aimed at; the under 10s, primarily girls, and Pixie Dust addicted professional Disney fans.

And don't forget..... we're gettin' booze. That should make Storytime with Belle a hoot.

Well in order to enjoy that aspect you'd have to drink a lot of wine during dinner at BOG and then hope there isn't a 30 minute buzz kill line at Belle and then be able to enjoy it with a buzz

I'll have to admit, the idea of chugging down a few Chimay's (which have a decently high alcohol content) and then heading to Space Mountain for a spin after dinner is very appealing to me.

Whatever you do don't go on Ellen's Energy Adventure hammered, I nearly pissed myself being stuck on that thing for 45 mins.

Forget Ellen, going on Mission Space after a few rounds at the Food and Wine fest was one of the worst decisions ever.

But Disney did copy Universal. Simple fact. You don't think that Disney would have come up with a soft beverage with added foam on top all by themselves do you?

Is a drink with foam really such an innovation that it's now metaphorically owned by Universal? I remember drinking rootbeer floats with cream soda way before either Potter or this were open. And it's not a fact at all. It may be your opinion, which there's nothing wrong with, but I do not share it.

For the 9th time... this expansion will serve its purpose nicely. It is well executed, big, and contains some very nice details. It should not be compared to any other theme park but the land of the theme park in which it was built.

In a way, yes. :P

Before Butterbeer, where else has there specifically been a slushie-type beverage that is dispensed into a cup, and then a separate foam topping is added?
