Rivers of Light General Discussion and Photos

June they are not in their summer hours yet. I have been to the park in the dark several times. But it is always annoying since certain things close early.
One of the late Saturdays' was when we were on vacation in Oct. They extended the closing from 5:30 to 8:00 the week before we left. I planned to stay till then to see the park in the dark. But by 2:00 we were completely bored and the crowd had become almost shoulder to shoulder everywhere (it ended up being a 9 or 10 on TP), so we went back to our hotel early

Here's some new concept art and a description from the Parks Blog:

In “Rivers of Light,” a pair of mystical hosts come to the river bearing gifts of light. During the show, the hosts set out from the shore on elaborate lantern vessels for a dramatic dance of water and light to summon animal spirits. With the storytellers as your guides, the wonders of “Rivers of Light” builds to a stunning crescendo.

The show will take place on Discovery River between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest – take a close look and you can you see the Tree of Life in the background. In addition to the show, you’ll also notice the park’s iconic Tree of Life will undergo an amazing awakening as the animal spirits of the tree are brought to “light” by magical fireflies, revealing moments of wonder and enchantment.

To create “Rivers of Light,” Imagineers and Creative Entertainment partnered with the talents of master puppet designer Michael Curry, composer Mark Mancina and the filmmakers at Disneynature. According to Imagineer Joe Rohde, the addition of “Rivers of Light” to the park’s offerings will serve as that huge “wow” moment that ends a guest’s visit to the park.

New Details Unveiled on Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s ‘Rivers of Light’ « Disney Parks Blog

This, along with Avatar opening, will help make AK a nice evening experience. It also should help ease some of the night time crowds at MK. Good move by Disney.

Agreed. I am really excited about this and can't wait for it to start.

Have we heard anything about the nighttime safari?

Some of the animals for the nighttime safari are there and they built a new habitat along the safari which will double for Hyenas during the day and African Wild Dogs at night I believe.

In all honesty, I may seriously consider the show to be superior to Illuminations or DisneyLand Forever when it premieres. There is not a word out there that can describe my excitement.

Of all the parks in which I would slam down my fist at any changes, I am really impressed at how they are doing everything at AK.

Does anyone know the seating capacity of these concrete bleachers?

New pictures show that the current tier of seating is not the only one. A second tier of seating is currently being installed behind and above the current ones. They are still on the ground tho. Hope that makes sense.

I have a feeling that it will have around 3/4 the seating of Fantasmic! and will make up for this with the standing room only areas surrounding the lake.

New?.... Bio's pics were just taken a few hours ago to my knowledge. Not sure what to look for or where the additional seating will go, but it's all fun.
They are in his as well. They are most noticeable in the bottom left pic as the new wood right above the current seats in the middle of the pic. It seems they will be smaller than I had thought.

From the looks of it, they aren't up to capacity of Fantasmic! bleachers, however, there are strong reports that, like World of Color out at DCA, this show will perform multiple times per night in order to increase the amount of people that will be able to see it.
