it's crazy how much nostalgia kicks affects the ranking/place of a ride in our hearts. With that said Jaws replacement was game changing for the theme park industry as whole. Simpsons was a fresh breathe of air and open the doors for more elaborate themeing that we have all grown to know and love and discuss when a land is not properly themed.

As for E.T going... I think its a great ride but as time passes so does its relevancy with young adults and kids. I believe my generation 1990 is the last who watched and enjoyed the film same thing for BTTF and JAWS. Merchandise and popularity is a huge piece of the puzzle.

With that said... is there a nostalgic board some where here? I'd love to discuss Nickelodeon studios and the atmosphere it added to the park

Just make ET into Mario/Yoshi ride where you ride on his back and use the same ride systems.

Nah. Why limit yourself to an existing layout when you can build from scratch?

Plus, that ride system needs some serious upgrading.

With ET, I'm hoping the Universal Executives don't give into Universal Creative, if indeed that is where this is coming from......And does Spielberg still have enough pull to play the white knight & protect his beloved ET? Wishing he fights the good fight..... Let the Nintendo expansion take the parade building and a acre or two of that storage area instead, and keep the only true family ride(ET) in the park.

Who says both big Nintendo rides won't be true family rides?

I always just walked on to those never waited. I've also heard many guests claim that ET was their favorite attraction, never really heard that with Kong and Jaws. I personally like/liked all 3 of those but ET seems to be more popular with the general public.

You have to remember pre-HP and post-HP are two different beasts. You could easily ride everything in both parks in one day in the middle of the summer pre-potter. Without Express you are not going to come anywhere close to even finishing one park in the middle of the summer never the less two parks post-potter. So trying to compare wait times between Jaws/Kong and ET is just not a good conclusion of how popular ET is vs. those two. Even the couple years Jaws was open with Phase 1 of HP isn't really a good indication because until Transformers came into Studios, Studios numbers were not nearly as good as IOA. Everyone wanted to spend a ton of time in HP and therefore they spent way less time in Studios. By the time Transformers opened Jaws was long gone.

Now I do hope they keep ET. I just think having one ride based on their history that is a slow dark ride is a good idea. They need more family rides, not to remove one. Now I think after Nintendo opens ET should close and get a huge refurb, but I would hate to lose it. I just think the big difference for me is Kong and Jaws were scary for kids and ET is just that nice family ride. For me it has a special place because it was the first time my LO was strapped in her own seat, that was such a huge (but scary) moment for me. Not sure why. But I hope it stays. I think you need that one ride of, wow, I remember that as a kid. Then take your kid on it, just a cool thing.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave you met, Drew?

But there are a lot of assumptions in this post. Jaws and Kong were very much top-tier before their closings.

Pre-Potter - There was a time I was able to order a beer, drink it as I made my way through the Mummy queue, put the beer down, ride Mummy, go back in queue, finish beer, and ride it again.

I get that, and ET is one of my favorite movies, but I'm willing to bet in my generation there will be more nostalgic feelings towards Nintendo than there will be towards ET

Never said Nintendo wasn't going to be family rides. But, if they tear down ET, there will be a 3-4 year gap until a Nintendo attraction replaces it, therefore no family ride during that period.....Now that Nintendo has a Disneyesque time frame, it's pretty far down the line in time, leaving a lot in limbo.

Yeah that's true. I guess what I really meant is I think those attractions declined somewhat in popularity before their closure, I don't think the same is true of ET.

To be fair, ET is a family ride compared to those 2; so by default it's more accessible for general ridership. (AKA kids not scared about killer shark or giant ape).

If Jaws wasn't an expensive ride to run, and take up all that valuable real estate; it would still be in operation today as top-tier.

I agree completely the family aspect is probably a big part of it. It also impresses me how the ride can work even for kids who have never seen ET. I think ET has a very good chance of survival, if however it was based on a more relevant kid friendly IP it's survival would be nearly guaranteed.
