I love that they're still adding, but at the same time, I dislike it. As someone that is going in August and might not enter the park again for a long time, you want Universal's best. Can't even feel bad for myself when thousands of other people aren't getting the "full" experience per say.

Before I ever stayed on site, I had the same feeling that it was unfair that onsite guests got a lot of benefits, even more so with Disney but it's a great incentive to stay on site.

I definitely felt like this staying at CBBR and it was awesome:

Still absolutely sucks for us day guests. I live 25 minutes away and have been a passholder for 15 years. I've stayed onsite once before but I just don't really see why a local would want to drop so much money on a hotel when the drive is 20 miles. I guess if I was rich as heck it would be a different story...

Remember they didn't build this for locals. They had that at W'n'W. The locals didn't spend so they went for the people that they know spend. The ones who stay onsite. Don't expect much to change but I am sure it will be better next year.

I really hoped for more from Vol

Me too. I thought it would be rock looking with movable lips and such but I guess that would be too much maintenence.

Related note, what is up with all the blue here and in the top of the volcano? I get it is "water" but I want lava. Give me red, red, red! (Bear, Bear, Bear!) shirts available online ;)

Got to the park at 9:10 this morning. Already closed to capacity.

If not for a stupid wreck I would've been there by 8:30....

This place is very popular. It needs its expansion fast tracked asap.

Is it reaching capacity because of throngs of people though or because of how much they lowered capacity to reduce the wait times?
Is it true that some of the slips at Volcano Bay have resulted in serious injuries?

They must have added the carpet for a reason, I think I did see a few reviews of slips and falls, was't there one posted where the team member even went with the kid to the hospital and waited with them?

I injured myself (drunk) at Universal while I was a guest for HHN last year. I was blown away by how they helped me get treatment. It was first class and did not seem to be driven by the desire to avoid a suit at all.

For slips, I know the first time we went I was shocked at how slippery the wood stairs are while barefoot coming off the water coaster. Fotunatley, I always use I handrail while on stairs, but l also saw someone fall.

I had water shoes on and it was raining and I almost slipped on one of the bridges, but that seemed more like oil from lotion being separated up to the surface do to the rain.

I know people complain about all the steel and such on the fast river, but I was really impressed looking up at such an impressive structure.

We got up here today staying at CBBR. We hung at the lazy river at the hotel for a bit, but my daughter wanted to go to Volcano Bay. I really love what they have going here. When we visit Orlando, we will stay somewhere up here and we are FL Res AP holders. I can only afford paces to one place up here and Disney priced me out long ago.

But since CBBR opened, we have stayed on site for each trip and it is great how close and easy everything is. I mean, my wife stayed at the pool and I took my daughter to VB. This was at 8:10 PM when my daughter asked to go....we walked over and got in two tube rides and the racers....so three rides in 40 minutes wasn't bad at all.

Our plan is to spend the whole day there tomorrow. But, I don't know where all the hate comes from, I really think this is a big gain for the park. I'm not sure how OPs is doing, but when we rode honu, rafts were going down at a good pace, when we got on, we were actually held up until the light turned green, so they were doing good there, 'cept I imagine it kind of sucks that most of the rafts had two riders when it can accommodate 5....but it can't hold 4 anyway...it needs to be 2, 3, or 5....

Still losing money though. My bro wanted to go to Typhoon Lagoon when he heard the park was closed to capacity. Money going into Disney or Sea World's pockets instead of Universals. This is where keeping Wet N Wild through this summer would've been smart.

I split the stays since they built CBBR & Sapphire. I'll stay at Sapphire or CBBR for a while and then move over to Portofino for the rest of the vacation. I always do a minimum of 7 nights at Portofino to get the best rates.....This saves a few bucks and you still get the greatest theme park extra ever, namely Express Passes.

Off topic, but I've been wondering for a few trips now: what are the luggage logistics involved in this?

They are very much so cutting capacity at VB. Almost half, I've heard.

Some observations:

  • As noted - the new tables added.
  • Vol was interactive and pretty fun. A lot of the area still closed off though.
  • Some walkway "shortcuts" are now blocked to prevent guests from ruining plant life.
  • Maku Puihi raft tubes have changed. They are now bulkier and taller, but the seat holes are a bit uncomfortable as you're sitting higher and not as set in. Apparently these don't go up the sides of Puihi as much - but we told TM's they weren't comfortable.
  • More non-slip carpets added on bridges.
  • Wooden shutters added to back of cabanas near roadways to help with privacy and sound.
  • More frog lamps removed. People can't respect things. Sad!

Not sure why, but it bugs me how much paint around this place has been scrapped off by people...I mean, really hand rails and such, but just sad to me, the lack of respect some people have.

Just wondering, last night there was fog/mist on one of the walkways around the park...just wondering if that was just at night...it just didn't make a lot of sense to me...I mean where I saw them using 'smoke' just seemed odd to me.

We drive down, so there's no problem moving from one hotel to another....But , when we were there in May, and checking out of Sapphire to move to Portofino, the Sapphire staff said they would transport our luggage to Portofino if we wanted. So it sounds like they have some sort of policy in effect for people that don't have cars.
