Fight At Disneyland Caught On Video

It all ties in to the reason why so many people like ourselves love theme parks as well, they present a version of the world to us that we wished we live in. This is just a reminder that the illusion of that is never far from being broken.
Not sure about anyone else, but I’m seeing a lot of unfunny stuff about this on twitter right now and I’m surprised at some of the people I follow who are finding it amusing. I just don’t see anything funny about it at all, it’s really tragic.

I think that's a common reaction from people who don't know how to process some emotions well. Those people get really uncomfortable when presented with something serious. They aren't used to showing empathy, so something in their brain reverts to a familiar emotion of humor in order to properly process it. Just look at people who 'woo' during a quiet part of a stand-up routine or the moron who posted a "funny" Twitter video turning this horrible video into some comedy bit. Some people have real problems.

I think there are a couple of factors. Some people can very easily look at things in two different ways and separate the seriousness and find humor in things where it might not be considered appropriate to others. The other factor is a kind of immunity to things like this. If you work in theme parks long enough you're going to see this scenario many times. Personally I didn't really find this fight to be that serious, everyone came out mostly unharmed. I doubt anyone went to the hospital. I've seen far worse in person. This is essentially very similar in the severity of the injuries to watching fail videos where people get hurt. To me the seriousness factor of this is the potential, this could've gone real bad real quick in many different ways. All in all the situation resolved itself in about the best way it could have.

Just to add some thought to the why didn't someone get involved and stop it (guest, CM, security, etc). Good Samaritans that try to do just that are generally the ones injured in these kinds of altercations. I personally know several examples where that person that stepped in was the only one injured or killed.

It really does seem like the right thing to do, but unfortunately can escalate the altercation very quickly....

You didn't find this to be that serious? What about the lasting effect on the children? Not only the ones involved, but all the children around watching. And I guarantee this wasn't an isolated incident for this family. The guy kept saying "I feel like going to jail today", this wasn't the first time this guy's been in a fight, he knew what he was doing and he knew his strength. You don't think that warrants further investigation into this families home life?

I respect that as your opinion, but I couldn’t disagree with it more. Comparing a man punching multiple women repeatedly in the face to fail videos where someone falls off their skateboard etc is not something I can agree with.

To add to this one thing people can do to help is to simply pull out their phone and call 911. One thing that happens in theme park settings like this is most guests assume the park employees are responsible for this and while that's true the sooner that call is made the sooner people will get there. It was also beneficial in this case for the incident to be recorded. The police reported that they really had nothing to go on until the video was discovered and that led to them reopening the investigation. Many times incidents like this the guests are just escorted out and no charges are pressed because there's no evidence, thankfully this case looks like it will be different.

I didn't find it to be that serious relative to other incidents. Thankfully everyone is ok, and yes it was probably traumatic for the kids, I'm optimistic they'll cope with this. I guess once you've seen fights at the MK that lead to a stabbing this just doesn't seem as bad and you look at it with a more positive attitude that everyone came out kind of okay and no one left in an ambulance. When you know how bad it could've been it changes your perspective.

Just to be clear I was only comparing the severity of the injury. It's not really an opinion more a fact. Obviously the situations are very different.

It's sad that this incident can be describe as a "win-win". True, nobody died, but what about the next time it happens and it's not in public? I hear stories too often about how women are killed in domestic disputes that had been ongoing for a long time. We have to be better as a society than just "ok... just don't kill her, alright?"

This is about to go off the rails, so I'm expecting mod intervention soon, but if the women don't press charges they are asking for it to get worse. I'm not saying anyone deserves anything, just by letting him get away with it, they have no one to blame when he gets worse. My wife's ex husband is a pretty much certified asshat. Like getting drunk, beating people up and shooting at people type asshat. The problem is, no one ever reported it, and when the cops came they covered for him. Well now that they are divorced, and her kid with him has to go over there, she freak out about whats going to happen. Every time she wants to go to court and try to force a custody issue the discussion always comes down to "what are you going to say"? Can't say he beat you up because you never pressed charges. Can't say he's a raging alcoholic because you guys all hid him when the cops showed up. Hell you say all that in court and he can come after you for slander.

TL;DR: as long as people keep protecting people like this, it will only get worse and they have no one to blame but themselves.

I agree, to a point. The guy felt empowered because he knew nobody would press charges. Which led me to believe that this wasn't an isolated incident. I don't believe the women are "asking for it to get worse", however. Partners (men and women) have to feel confidence and empowered to press charges against those that are physically abusing them. They need a support system and to feel safe that if they do press charges and that guy goes to jail for any length of time that the person won't seek revenge the second they get out.

He only has the power because they let it continue to happen. If the first time it happened they walked out the door, it would end it right then.

But we are completely off the rails here, so I'm out on this one.

My thoughts on this is, it was disgusting, and just mean spirited for that to happen. She should of not spit in his face, he should of never slapped her around, then the fight. Then Mr. "neighborhood Crip" announcement in front of everyone. Then the slapps down to when he punched that girl in the face and if the guest that ran to help her would not of did that, could you imagine how bad that could of been.
My biggest thing was they just did that in front of their kids, and lots of families with kids & other guest. I give props to the guys to get him off her, and red back pack guy for choking him out.
Security lady was right there she should of made a point and at least say something to disfuse the situation, instead of stand there like she was posing for Animal crackers. I hope now that the police have the video, the state picks up the case and file charges. That was pure assualt, domestic violence, disrupting the public.

I know at Uni there are plain clothes security, my hubby is one, and he said it should of been disrupted the moment they were yelling. I understand the can't touch them but at least make sure they see a security person and confront them to at least try to get them to calm down. I feel sorry for those kids.
I have seen at Uni a altercation starting and within a minute they were swarmed and removed from the park. Does Disney security have some training on how to at least intervene instead of stand there. Just gross, especially DL has had a slow and hardly any guest thing going on & now this all over. People are gonna be afraid to go because they gonna think that its not safe.

The drinks at Oga's aren't buff enough to make you a belligerent drunk. I finished my two drinks within 15 minutes and had a short buzz that quickly faded. I left before the 45-minute time limit and was pretty sober leaving the place. So unless that guy drank everyone else's drink in his party, I wouldn't blame alcohol as the cause for this scenario.

Not saying it was alcohol, but it's very easy to sneak liquor into Disneyland. I would never recommend it, one way ticket to being banned for life, but it's possible.

No matter how tight security is, it's amazing what you can get away with. On my visit to DL on 6/21, they didn't even scan my daughter's ticket at the gate and just let her in (I know this isn't really a security issue, but still). On my visit on 7/2, I forgot to take off my backpack for bag check before going through the metal detector. While the metal detector would've caught anything metal inside, I could've brought in prohibited items such as liquor. Not that I would. Surprised no security guards noticed I walk through with my backpack on. I'm sure this happens worldwide all day everyday, even at sporting venues and airports.

interesting they mentioned how there were in fact plain-clothed security in the video that stepped in. The guy with the red backpack who took down the guy with a choke hodl did say something to the security guard next to him who also seemed to quickly acknowledge him. Maybe the red backpack is a way for uniformed security to tell who's who (as in they could have several distinguishable accessories for plain clothes security to wear that identifies them as such).

I think the lack of work done by the security is the fact that they don't have a police station onsite? Universal has sheriff's, also if you look at the security its an older women and man, what are they gonna do. Here at USH we got buff 21 year olds who are eager to take people down haha plus sheriff's onsite.
Plus at USH we have undersover sheriff's or police to catch shoplifters
