To be fair, there are two awards, Best Screenplay, for original stuff and Best Adapted, for adaptations from plays, books, comics, etc

I mean, I know that. I'm not quite sure what your point is. You were saying you wouldn't call it Oscar worthy and I was agreeing, mentioning that it only got nominated for (and didn't win) in a lesser category. Best original is the much more impressive award of the two screenplay awards imo.

Two different thoughts. That wasn't related to the movies-about-Hollywood bit. I was curious about how often Best Screenplay won Best Picture, until I saw there was a Best Adapted as well. At that point it became too much stat work for me. :)

Winning script has in recent years become a more accurate portend than winning director, which used to be the tell.

With that said, this is all Nomadland's to lose. Should coast to a pretty easy win for the big prize.

Daniel Kaluuya and Carey Mulligan hosting SNL next month, I haven’t watched movies in awhile but here’s my excuse!

I don't normally harp on awards shows, but this year's ceremony is already off to a boring start. Whatever happened to "show, don't tell"?

The issue is they are not showing clips of the movies which most people didn't watch.

This was most apparent to me during the Best Costume award. The presenter kept going on about how visually stunning each nominee’s work was, and we don’t even get at least a picture of what they looked like.

Not ending the show with Best Picture is certainly a bizarre choice. Guess they want to do something special for Chadwick at the end.

First time I don't watch since I was like 5 years old. The movies this year, other than Promising Young Woman & Judas, were just so boring and it looks like it reflected in the show.

I see Soderbergh brought his sterile yet confusing style to the Oscars. That said, y'all should watch The Knick.

What I was talking about there was Nomadland winning Best Picture (or at least thought we were). It won.

I'll bring the controversial opinion: I liked a good chunk of the format changes to the Oscars. I think the way that did it, felt albeit much more similar to something like the Golden Globes. A party, a celebration; more than a standard awards show. I like that the presenters talked about the nominees in their own ways, and I hope that actually sticks around (along with the timer changes). That said..woof to the last bit.
