Really? Have you been to Wild Arctic? That walrus that swims in circles without fail every single time you visit, that is really depressing. The tiny polar bear exhibit with the pacing back and forth is not much better. The penguins, sharks, etc. I think are fine, though.

I am not 100% opposed to animal exhibits, I just think they should be very large and very well made (no concrete floors and small cages for land animals). They should be at a minimum like the Serengeti Plain at BGT or some of those at Animal Kingdom.

I too find the walrus exhibit in Wild Arctic quite upsetting. Last time I was out in Orlando, I actually asked one of the SeaWorld trainers present at the exhibit about him. Turns out the walrus is actually blind, which explains why he swims the same route over and over. Not sure whether the same applies to the polar bear, but it is concerning.

But on the other hand, how long would a blind/visually impaired walrus survive in the wild? My guess is not very long.

How do you know I do not care about these other things? I was choosing to stay on topic and not answer your what abouts, but if you really care to know: I don't eat meat or dairy, I avoid fast food, I try to shop local and smaller when possible, and I don't own pets (and I don't judge or care if people do any of these things).

I also did not have my opinion changed by Blackfish. I had that opinion before, and yes I visited SeaWorld before and I still happily visit now. But all of that is irrelevant to this topic and was not needed to be said.

You can shoot down any movement by saying "what about". There are always bigger and smaller problems. And of course documentaries are one sided. I don't think anyone is denying that.

Well that could be true, but the tank is still unreasonably small and I think could force the swimming pattern anyway in some cases.

We all here expect the best out of new rides; learn from the past, and build bigger and better; we could do the same here with future exhibits.

I wasn't posting that at you (apologies if it came off that way). Its was really at the bands making a decision to not honor their commitment based on a one sided documentary. In fairness, it should have also shown what good SeaWorld has done. But that's all irrelevant now. I think the point was on topic since the bands are making some statement by not playing, but I am sure have played at many events that serve food from sources that are far worse than anything SeaWorld does. If you going to make a stand for something, then they should be consistent.

I do hope there was something in the contracts that will penalize the bands. If there wasnt I am sure there will be if they have the event next year.

^ Yes I too wonder about the contracts. Isn't that the point of a contract? SeaWorld would still get paid? Maybe they let the bands out of the contract so they wouldn't say anything negative on stage?

Undoubtably. My point was to try and highlight some of the fantastic work that SeaWorld do in conservation and caring for animals that otherwise wouldn't make it in the wild.

The story regarding the breeding and containment of orcas is a contentious one for sure, but we mustn't forget the great things both Busch Gardens and SeaWorld do for wildlife. Unfortunately this documentary failed to acknowledge that work which is why the company is being tarnished.

That is a lot of words to basically sum up nothing relevant. Who cares about CNN's motives? The actual issues with the animals (which existed well before any movie came out) were not debated in the article.

The article points out the irony that Blackfish criticizes SeaWorld for exploiting the whales for money, whereas CNN is exploiting the hell out Blackfish for money, and they don't give a damn about the whale's condition. (To clarify, that's CNN, not the film makers.)

I concur. There is no movie, there is no CNN. What are we left with other than our minds to consider the very very simple facts? If anyone here thinks the concrete tanks the orcas are held in every night are just fine, then raise your hand here and state that it is fine with you; that you know/think they are happy "enough".

^ Wow, kind of surprising considering REO was censoring negative posts on their Facebook page for a while.

The problem IMO is that once a band starts playing at Sea World after such a supposedly big anti-Sea World movie comes out....they're afraid the newsmedia will call them out and ask them why they didn't cancel.

A lot of producers hate bad publicity, despite the old adage.

My goodness, many of you are so hung up on this movie. Forget the movie ever existed and we are left with one simple fact: large intelligent mammals are being held in very small concrete cells 60-90% of a 24hr period every day. Pretend the movie doesn't exist at all and this is an still an absolute fact, standing all by itself.

Can somebody do a documentary on me being trapped in a tiny building 33-50% of a day? I think it's cruel and unusual punishment that I have to slave away in such small confines.

Edgar Winter of "Free Ride" fame is requesting the song to not be used in the Shamu shows. This is the second artist to make such a request in the past week.

The list is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/177318159135479/

Everything listed there is what is known. The problem is that SeaWorld had not yet officially announced all the dates and artists.
