CINCINNATI — After more than 125 years of business, Coney Island is shutting down.

The amusement park announced Thursday that effective Dec. 31, 2023, Coney Island will be "permanently ceasing operations."

Coney Island first opened in 1886 with Sunlite Pool opening in 1925.

Dennis Speigel started to work there 34 years after the pool opened.

“I began as ticketaker at the front gate in 1959. I worked through junior high, high school and college," he said. “Kind of a sad moment for me to see it go, but I understand why."

Speigel was shocked by the news, but said ther were signs this was eventually coming.

I wonder what comes next for the plot of land though.

The title of the news article says what's coming...

"Coney Island to permanently close at the end of 2023, 'first-of-its-kind' music venue to take its place."

It's pretty cut and dry, the place is being renovated into a new music venue.
