While all these delays are likely 95% budgetary/manufacturing reasons, can’t help but think if they believe Epic Universe is opening in 2024/2025 that they need something to open as well. Kinda wonder if this gets very delayed

Not much. James Gunn is wrapping up post production on The Suicide Squad from his home right now and once he’s done with that and Studios have the green light for production, GotG 3 can start.

Nah, they won't go that far. If anything, they'll start a new project like Indy at DHS.

I’m waiting to see these projects completed or some completed before they begin to build new things again

Yeah, if they feel they need something big to draw attention from Epic Universe, it will be some new project.

In any case, Cosmic Rewind will have locked up the "most time it takes to build a single attraction post-Haunted Mansion" award for quite some time. It could conceivably end up closing in on five years.

The ride better deliver hahaha. I know my source kept mentioning how “big” this ride is so I’m hoping it lives up to that

I'm thinking that most of the current projects will get finished by 2022 (or 2023 if SSE and Poppins still happen) for the anniversaries, and then a new and probably smaller slate of projects for 2024/2025 will get announced at 2021 D23.

Probably just referring to the fact that it’s the most expensive roller coaster in the history of mankind by a wide margin.

While I agree that it had better deliver for a variety of reasons (its ill-fitting placement and extremely protracted construction timeline, just for starters), my expectations for the ride are at a kind of subterranean level at this point, so I can really only be pleasantly surprised! The coaster people will probably like it, and the casual guest will probably like it, but I'm not hearing much specific that appeals to me.

I think Vol 3 was ready to start filming in 2021 but it's probably in a queue behind all the other delayed productions.

Filming for the ride could already be done for all we know and I can't remember if we even know what the ride is about or when it's meant to take place. If it's meant to take place after Vol 3, I could see this being an issue.

Depending on when it opens in 2022, we're looking at almost a 5 year build time.

Tbh, I don’t think the ride is reliant on getting the actors to film. They could probably use the comic versions of the characters as backup and have Pratt, Saldana, Cooper, etc record voice over.

I've maintained from all the way back in 2017 that it would not be a huge hurdle to get the cast on hand to film whatever they need to film outside of the production of VOL. 3 (assuming they're already contractually obligated for theme park stuff, which I suspect they are). They could pull each of them in for a day on a green-screen soundstage at their own individual convenience and digitally composite them together if they absolutely had to. And Rocket and Groot are fully digital creatures anyway.

Do we have a rough number for the cost?

Nothing official, obviously, but $400 - $500 million has been frequently speculated/hinted-at by various Disney insiders.

I've heard anywhere from 300 to 500 mil.

EDIT: For some perspective on the difference between Disney costs and Universal costs, I've also heard somewhere in that range for Super Nintendo World in Japan.

Anyone of you know what the other most expensive coasters are? I would assume Hagrid's, Gringotts, and Everest.

Hagrid is quoted as close to 300...but honestly I don't buy that, as it'd be way out of character for Uni's budgets. Everest was 100 million, but that was also built a decade and a half ago.
