I mean, obviously we all have our feelings about the mazes, and what feels "new" compared to "old" or "obscure" compared to "popular." It's all relative—me and all my friends were stoked for Poltergeist and consider it a major movie, but I also know there were people there who had straight up never heard of it. To some people, Trick r' Treat is super obscure, to others not at all.
Having said that, when I look at the current speculation list two things jump out and make me feel skeptical: 1) Two original mazes, and 2) No further Netflix partnerships. Obviously IPs are IPs and it's not as easy as Murdy saying, "Hey Netflix, give me this," but between the success of the ST maze and the glut of original horror stuff on Netflix (Hill House/Cam/Apostle/Calibre), it seemed like a perfect partnership. If Hill House for sure isn't happening, I have to imagine it wasn't for lack of trying on Universal's side. Popular show, great content for a maze, it makes almost too much sense. And then the original mazes: I've been lectured on the fact that HHN started with originals and I get that, it's fine, but I would bet just about anything I have that the vast majority of people going to HHN Hollywood aren't interest in original mazes. There are other venues in Los Angeles for that stuff. HHN Hollywood—specifically Hollywood—has become famous for bringing movies and shows to life. Having two original mazes will turn a lot of people off, including myself. Sorry if that makes the purists bristle, but it's true.
I also think y'all put too much stock into these speculations. Someone said they had basically the whole list sussed out last year, only to have HHN "re-jigger" things at the last moment. Not sure a massive operation like HHN can "re-jigger" things at the last minute—seems more likely that the rumors were false or the guesses were wrong. I take everything with a grain of salt; doesn't mean speculating isn't fun, but you need that salt!
And for poops and giggles, here's my dream list, with announced mazes incorporated:
1. Stranger Things
2. Universal Monsters
3. Holidayz
4. Us
5. Hill House
6. Halloween (2018)
7. Pet Semetary (1989)
