Halloween Horror Nights 23 Reviews & Photos

Lines long even with Express?

Duh! On a serious note though you can expect Express lines to be long just about every night from here on out most of the time. I wonder if the next thing will be "Super Express" even shorter wait times at a charge of 150 a head

Thanks for the reviews guys! I'll be going this upcoming Friday, the 11th. Hoping it won't be too too bad in terms of crowds, but I have learned to just take it as it comes!

Be warned, some of this stuff may contain spoilers.

MAZES:

Walking Dead: Am I the only one here who LOVES this maze? They seriously did a great job with this and some of the stuff there were very gruesome.

Cabin: Another very gruesome maze. Seriously, most of the gore were almost disturbing to see! Very awesome!

Werewolf: Also a super scary maze! I'd say the first three mazes are part of a high tier of the best (WD, Cabin, and Werewolf). The actors in Werewolf (particularly in the theater scene) caught me good.

La Llorona: Initially, LL wasn't that scary, but last night they really got their act together! Plus, the theming is great!

Evil Dead: Another great maze. Probably tied with La Llorona. Gotta try this one again though.

Afterlife: Pretty good! Like the 3D effect! Could be a tad better (compared to some of the others).

Havoc: It would have been better if the line wasn't so LONG. It was an hour wait, and I was expecting great things... but while it was fun, it wasn't worth that long of a wait. Was disappointed.

Resident Evil: Hands down, my least favorite. BIG let down, and it just wasn't scary.

SHOWS:

Only did one, but I'll do the other next time.

Bill and Ted: I never laughed this much in any other theme park show, except *maybe* Horror Make Up Show. When they (WARNING: SPOILER) brought up Animal Kingdom's Avatar opening in 2065, that really caught me breathless.

Overall, well done event! This is my first HHN, and I hope to visit more in the future!

Great review thanks for posting!

The wife and I ended up going three nights and we had a great time.

For houses, we really liked AWiL, WD, and CitW. Last year, our favorites were Gothic and Dead End.

Not sure what I can say that has not been mentioned already.

I do not think we really got RE. I did enjoy it a little more the 2nd time we went through (only went in twice) as I did not see that green monster thing the 1st time and it got me on my second visit. I will say that I liked the 'actor' in the 1st scene as he seemed (to me) to move sort of like a video game character as he paced on the hood of the car (we are not gamers).

One cool thing that happened to us while we entered 'Atlanta' one time was this girl who looked pretty normal, well she came up to us and was frantically warning us not to proceed into the area...she seemed very sincere and really into the role which was cool!

Just got back home after the long drive. This was our first Theme Park Horrorfest ever so my opinions are those of a novice. We loved the Rocky Horror Picture Show. We saw it three times. Also, Bill & Ted was truly awesome comedy. Would have liked to catch it more than once, but our schedule didn't fit. We also thought the Hollywood Street scene was awesome. The lights & writing on the facades plus the staked zombies etc. made it seem like an authentic war zone. And the soldiers in & around the trucks were great. We did take the tip to do the early wait zones at Finnegan's & next to the Animal Show. That worked out great and we never waited in a house line for more than apx. 15 minutes. That was good, since we enjoyed the houses, we never really experienced a true scare, and I would never wait in a long line for them. That said, we thought Werewolf & Walking Dead were the best houses and Havoc was terrible and surely the worst. All in all it was a fun experience.

Totally stole the format from STG, thanks!

These are my opinions of the event I attended and the experience I had over three nights and a behind the scenes tour.

Be warned, some of this stuff may contain spoilers.

MAZES:

Walking Dead: Better than last year. The chained zombies and fish tank scene were the best parts of the house. Did any one answer the phone? Horrible, horrible, horrible zombie masks have these "Halloween" people ever heard of a frickin sock mask and eye paint? 4/10

Cabin in the Woods: Best house of the event. Loved it when it got to the facility and all the monsters were there. The ending, however, sucked why not a giant set of hands or something? 9/10

An American Werewolf: It Could have been better, like if the had anyone in the first three scenes. The puppets were cool and it was a better house than I thought it would be. 8/10

La Llorona: I liked the house well enough and the dead kinds in the river was pretty creepy but some of it just didn't quite fit and felt a bit off. But I really liked the look of the house. 7/10

Evil Dead: Worst house of the event, lamest entry into a SS house ever. We were told on the tour that the cellar door scareactor was the highest paid because of her role and interactivity... if weren't for the express I wouldn't have went in it more than once. Color me unimpressed. 2/10

Afterlife: after the crap fest for a 3-D house last year it wasn't hard to improve this year! I Like most of the 3D effects, but the story was a mess. based on some of the effects and no other reason 5/10

Havoc: People banging on cages. And people shooting guns, at least it was better than the bulkheads from the crapfest that was original H:DOW. The only part I liked was the sets of the derailed train. 3/10

Resident Evil: A game house does nothing for me, and one zombies in a event that already has too many isn't going to win me over. The dog and creature puppets were cool. 3/10

SHOWS:

Didn't do RH, seen it before no reason to see it again

Bill and Ted: The Disney stuff was funny and finally some Big Bang, all though Penny (Penny Penny) was wasted. It was better than last year, but not great. 6/10

Streets:
Overall 3/10

Loved the photo ops the Barn, Well walker, Bicycle Girl, Deer walker, the Pets. 10/10
The Kidzone was lame. 2/10
Hollywood was lame except for the writing on the building. 3/10
San Francisco was lame. third year with zombies in bad masks shuffling around, the dead in the cars is the only redeeming quality to that area. 2/10
New York was below average and the tank was neat, but just neat and pretty much useless. 3/10
Front Gate meh. 2/10
Walker Bomb, saw one night it was fun to see nothing more. 4/10
Survivors Worst part of the streets. .01/10

"Better than last year" was all we kept saying the first night, and that is all this year was.
For the love of God please, please no more Walking Dead and no more effin Zombies!! Also hire some better marketing guys and put some products in you stores.

HHNs 23 6.5/10

Alright. Just did my one and only night at this year's Halloween Horror Nights this past Saturday. And here is my rankings:

For those of you who don't remember or just don't want to look back at the "Most Anticipated Houses", here's my list:

My pre-HHN rankings:

1. Havoc: Derailed (I loved the original house and I have high hopes for the sequel)
2. The Cabin In The Woods (I enjoyed the movie and the ending of this house should be great)
3. Urban Legends: La Llorana (A well executed house from Hollywood move to Orlando. Lets hope it'll be better than last years export from Hollywood, "Alice Cooper: Welcome To My Nightmare")
4. The Walking Dead: No Safe Haven (I HATED The Walking Dead House last year. The actor were in the open, the wore plastic masks that were very cheap and fake looking instead of makeup from the Universal Horror Crew and were in the cramped Disaster Quene to try and fit two seasons worth of content into. Now they are in the parade warehouse. Hopefully they can turn it around.)
5. Afterlife: Death's Vengeance (Could be great or it could suck. Just going to have to wait and see.)
6. Resident Evil: Escape From Raccoon City (I know nothing about the franchise besides the fact that the movies suck. I know it's game based, but I've never played it. Silent Hill was a huge letdown for me last year and I think that's why I'm not high on Resident Evil as others are.)
7. Evil Dead (Saw the movie and its just a gore fest. I just don't know what to think about this house yet. It could suck or it could be "Groovy")
8. An American Werewolf In London (Ok. I just got done watching "An American Werewolf In London". I know others enjoy this movie and I'm not here to **** on your opinions of the movie. However, I thought this movie was incredibly boring from start to finish. Yes, the transformation scene was good, but it took forever to get to. For a werewolf movie, I think the "werewolf" was used for all of 15-20 minutes of this movie. The rest was a guy in a hospital bed with bizarre nightmares and being haunted by his friend, male ass shots and watching porno at Picadilli Square. Seriously, if I didn't know any better, I'd think this was a soft core pornonabout a werewolf. Plus the movie ends so abruptly that its jarring. I was looking forward to this house because of the hype the HHN Community has been giving it, but I think this house is going to suck big time. Could anyone explain what I missed in this movie that is going to make this a good house?)

Now here's my rankings from Worst to First:

8. HAVOC: Derailed (2nd House of The Night, 5 Minute Wait, Visits: 1): As you can tell, I was looking forward to this house. I literally walked in at the beginning of the night and walked right into the house. I am a huge fan of the house from Horror Nights 20. But this? This SUCKED!!! It was way too short and when you walk out of the house, you can see how much empty space was left untapped for this incredibly short house. This house could have been good, but the lack of space and then not utilizing it to its fullest potential damned this house. The actors are in their form that we want them to be in, but they are just to restricted from doing anything. Such a damn shame. If its over an 60 minute wait, avoid it.

7: Afterlife: Death's Vengeance (5th House of the Night, 45 Minute Wait, Visits: 1): I knew the story heading in, but the house just was mediocre to me. It didn't help that I missed the Electric Chair going off. The house has no surprises. Everyone is in plain sight and it relies on you being disoriented by mirrors and neon lights that pop in the 3D House. I personally feel "The In-Betwen" is the better house. It just didn't click for me.

6: AMC's The Walking Dead: No Safe Haven (3rd House of the Night, 30 Minute Wait, Visits: 1): Previously on AMC and Horror Nights' Walking Dead, Universal Studios put this house based of a hot TV Show in what I deam to be the new "cursed" area of the park with JAWS gone, the Disaster Studios Quene. The house contained in a too quick experience Seasons 1 and 2. And now they have put it EVERYWHERE! After a while, the Walking Dead theme will becoming grating, I guarantee it. In fact, the Walking Dead really has grown stale as a Horror Nights Experience. The house's sets were good, but with better scares elsewhere and the lack of characters from the show (I only saw The Govenor's Daughter, That Nerdy Dude that dies in the last episode or two of last season and that Annoying Blonde Chick we were all glad to see die, Andria.) I don't know if I missed the others or if they are just not there, but it just didn't do it for me.

5. Urban Legends: La Llorana (4th House of the Night, 20 Minute Wait, Visits: 1): Okay, the house is only this low because the next four houses were really good (to me at least). This was fairly well done and the sets were gorgeous. I do feel its not as good as the Hollywood incarnation, but it was still enjoyable. Not much to really say here that hasn't been said.

4. Resident Evil: Escape From Raccoon City (7th House of the Night, 45 & 5 minute waits, Visits: 2): Okay, before people ask, I do not play the games. I know nothing about the property. I thought this house had fairly good intensity. The pause scene is forgettable, but I love the giant what ever the hell that thing is that is a stilt guy that pops out of that hole near the end and the dude with the gatoling gun. The ending was meh, but it was good. I also liked the Meats Meats reference.

3. Evil Dead (8th House of the Night, 45 & 0 Minute Waits, Visits: 2): Ok, this house makes it to 3 on two reasons: Number 1: Chainsaws and Number 2: The "Alone" Experience I had at the end of the night. I walked through with my uncle, by ourselves, the entire length of this house. We got hit with all of the scares. And we were chased out the door (literally) by the girl at the end with the chainsaw. Props. Good house, especially if there's no one else there.

2. The Cabin In The Woods (6th House of The Night, 60 & 30 Minute Waits, Visits: 2): I was highly looking forward to this house. And it did not disappoint like HAVOC. The only complaint I had was I felt it was too short, but this house is great. It was also nice seeing certain characters on the second floor of the last room. And in almost any other year, this is the best house. But damn...

1. An American Werewolf In London (1st House of the night, 15, 60, & 5 minute waits, Visits: 3): Mmm... Crow... Yeah, I'm eating crow on this one. I still stand by my comments on the movie. I still don't like it. But when you cut everything that I hated, especially the 45 minutes of filler in the hospital bed flirting with the nurse and no one believing that he was attacked. And of course, the werewolfs. Those things are INCREDIBLE!!! This house is phenomenal and is the best house I've seen in my 5 years of Horror Nights. I'm glad that John Landis waited to do this because the years it's been on the shelf is worth it.

Thanks for reading and have a happy Horror Nights.
