Directed by Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within, Scare Me)
Written by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky), Michael Kennedy (It's a Wonderful Knife), Philip Murphy (Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard)
Produced by Spyglass (Scream (2022), Scream VI, Thanksgiving), Divide/Conquer (Totally Killer)
Distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment

For the past two years, a masked murderer known as the Heart Eyes Killer has been stalking, hunting and brutally slaying couples on Valentine's Day. When co-workers Ally (Olivia Holt) and Jay Simmons (Mason Gooding) are mistaken as a couple by the killer, they become the killer's main targets in a night they'll never forget, in this slasher/rom-com mixup.

While unfortunately produced by Spyglass (saw this movie for free with AMC Stubs, not giving them any of my money), this movie was very, very good IMO. Not only just very well made (cinematography and soundtrack were excellent), this movie hits on every mark. Great characters that you actually grow to care about and want to see survive, surprisingly really funny with lots of laugh-out-loud moments (largely thanks to Gooding's comedic timing and line deliveries), brutal kills with great gore that are always fun and never feel mean-spirited (looking at you Terrifier), and a genuinely scary killer with an intimidating presence and iconic design.

Highly recommend (just... try to see it for free or a low price).

If you are going in expecting a scary movie you will be disappointed. Go in expecting something along the lines of a Scream vibe and you’ll likely enjoy it.

I never went in expecting a scary movie (I love horror movies but I rarely get scared by them, so I never go into any horror movie expecting it to be "scary".) tho!!! I knew exactly what I was getting with this movie. I'm a huge fan of the Scream movies and other slashers like it. I simply think this movie was very lazily written and boringly directed. The kills were cool sure. But everything else was so cliche and dull imo. To me it was basically a hallmark movie script that got turned into a slasher. I also never laughed once during this movie so it failed on the "comedy" front for me too. Companion was a way better horror movie about romance tbh. I enjoyed that movie a lot more and found it a lot funnier

I enjoyed the movie sure it was a little scream like and was not that funny but other then that it was great. I didn't find or expect it to be scary. Overall I really enjoy the movie and I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes slasher films.

I did not get a scream vibe. It had elements of scream, but all scenes that did not directly have Heart Eyes character were beyond cheesy bad.
I also did not find it funny at all, my only laughs were how stupid the scene was.

Some details I noticed on a re-watch:
  • You can pick up pretty quickly that there's more than one killer, as HEK is shown to be far away from the bride when they begin chasing her, then suddenly caught up to her car before her, because there's two of them hunting her.

  • When Shaw finds her ring at the crime scene, she is visibly very concerned and even looks scared for a moment, which now seems obvious as her getting worried they might be caught.

  • When Hobbs & Shaw are talking about the killer's possible identity and motive, Hobbs keeps referring to HEK as 'he', and Shaw is the one to perp up that it could be a woman (of course because she's one of the killers). Also possibly some extra motivation as Shaw says it could be the woman that was never asked out to prom and got cheated on one too many times?

  • In the same scene, Shaw mentions she's talking to a tech guy, and of course David turns out to be the police station's IT guy.

  • During the interrogation scene, Shaw asking Jay if he's single and what he thinks about Ally, which of course on a first watch seems like a comedic moment of Shaw trying to take a shot at hooking up with him. On the rewatch though, it comes much more across as her genuinely curious about if Jay and Ally are experiencing love together. In the same scene, David is also asking Ally if she's single, trying to fish out of her what she thinks as well.

  • HEK in the drive-in scene is Eli, aka the fanboy copycat David and Shaw let join on. Especially on the rewatch, you notice that it's rather apparent this isn't our main HEK, as Eli is much more careless and sloppy with his kills and is just rampaging, meanwhile David and Shaw are much more methodical and stealthy.

  • Speaking of Eli, he's the prankster wearing the HEK mask at the coffee shop, and is the random bystander wearing the mask at the carousel crime scene.

I'll probably rewatch this with my dad when it hits streaming. I hope I enjoy it more. I doubt it but who knows. My opinions change a lot on movies sometimes lmao
