What would that do if cars were allowed to go through?

I don't hate it as much as others do...but how has there not been some form of suit been filed against the manufacturer? I mean this thing SUCKS with reliability.

It's just terrible all the way around. It was projected to cost 45 million and feature a led board lift hill. It was supposed to have a capacity of 1850 riders per hour and Open in the Spring of 2009. In the end it's been said to of hit the 55 million dollar mark, face numerous delays and cutbacks, and it capacity sucks.

Maybe their is legal action out their somewhere and in the end Universal may get some new ride cars as well?

As I look at the x-coaster rides created by Maurer Söhne, Rockit looks like the biggest x-coaster they ever made. And when you combine never before done maneuvers and a complicated ride system, there will be problems. It's unfortunate that this ride has problems, and I know it's Universal it should be amazing, but there are rides who have worse problems than Rockit. Heck, there are rides that never worked, but this one does. And most of the time there's a line for this ride so it's not considered a failure. Even when Potter and TF come to USF, this ride will still have a line. Besides back in 2005, California Screamin' had the same problem yet it's still a good ride. So just give a chance. Things will get better.

By the way, were there any injuries caused by this air leak?

^Nah. An air leak is an air leak. The loss in pressure probably ended up causing a fault resulting in an auto E-Stop or something.

Fly through the brake run without stopping whatsoever if the E-stop doesn't work (God forbid).

In most instances (older Arrows like Magnum excepted) when there are brakes controlled by compressed air, it takes air pressure to open the brakes and their default position is closed. So if these were air brakes that there was a leak on, they should just remain closed in the case of an air bladder leak. Of course, I wouldn't put it past Mauer to have put air brakes that default to open instead on RockIt...

I honestly think all the break downs and stuff give the coaster some personality lol. In other news, I rode RockIt twice today (Once during the day, once at night) and both rides were very smooth...I probably just lucked out....but it was still pretty awesome. It's still a beautiful work of art at night, and it provides dazzling views of Uni at night.

I believe B&M's brakes use air to open AND close. The valves are set so that when it is de-energized, air from the local bladder is sent to the brake cylinder, closing the caliper.

Arrows have bladders right next to the brakes as well. When de-energized, the air from the bladder is sent into the brake to close it. The bladder needs to be at a certain pressure before the brakes can release. This is why on Arrows you never see just one or two brakes in the station. It's usually at least four.

Did B&M just in the last year or two finally go to magnetic brakes?

They have been using magnetic brakes more recently yes, but only in conjunction with the older mechanical style, not as a total replacement. You can see them on the newer hypers (Diamondback / Carowinds Intimidator), Leviathan, and some others such as Krake, and the Wing Coasters. I don't know it it's because of a physical limitation or merely as another level of failsafe that they haven't fully replaced the mechanical brakes with them though. I know some manufacturers use magnetic brakes which aren't capable of fully stopping a train on their own due to the way they work (one of Intamin's old style of fins was like this). It may not be the case with B&M, I actually don't quite know.

Magnetic brakes cannot fully stop a train. They slow it down to a crawl and that's about it. There still needs to be a physical means to stop a train like a caliper or drive tires.

Would you guys please stop talking about coaster brakes failing... pleeeeeez? It is making me sick to my stomach at just the thought of flying through a break run into the back of another coaster.

:ack:
